What really makes me cringe is how no. 1 and 2 used to be regular, full price airlines, while Ryan and Spirit never pretended to be anything but budget. European full price airlines, like Lufthansa, Air France, SAS and KLM have survived by not trying to compete with Ryanair but provide old fashioned international flights where you can leave your credit card in checked luggage... No extra expenses after you've checked in.
