One thing i notice in all new modern cabinets is that 8000kz response, is attenuated, because plastic horns, will distort or go in resonance. that's why i prefer DIY cabinets, with metalic horns. That's when you get that crystal highs & people like it, cause vocals are natural.

have any of you heard the new BassBoss subs? I have not heard the mk2’s but I do know they have given the new ones more power, better hardware and software. The DV12’s saw a decent improvement with the MK3’s so I’m assuming the subs did too. I bought the 18 with the 4 ports in the corners and man is that thing loud, low, and accurate. My RCF 18 doesn’t even come close to the BassBoss 18. As far as the DV12 MK3’s they are superior to any 12’s I’ve ever owned including my RCF’s the I upgraded from. The clarity, accuracy, and dispersion are unmatched and the dispersion is like that of a line array.
@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss 3 ай бұрын
What RCF’s did you have? As for subs, I have yet to hear better than Bassboss. The DV12 is an excellent speaker but its downfall is the weight and ergonomics. If handling on your own they aren’t fun. However, the sound quality is excellent. I have heard from other users that MK3 isn’t much better than MK2 if at all but I haven’t tested that with my own ears. I recently had a chance to compare the Meyer Ultra x40 to the DV12 and the Meyer box is the only one I have found that literally destroyed it. However it’s nearly double the price. For the money, and they are expensive, Bassboss is a great choice.

@@FinestEventssI have the Jmix8 and j8 for mains and the 18” 708 ASII for the sub. Honestly they sound pretty good but no comparison to the BB DV12’s MK 3’s. The RCF sub is ok but does not project like the BB. I don’t find the DV12 to be awkward to carry and most of the time I transport them on a small cart. As far as putting them on the stands, I just lay them on their side on the cart, then stick the stand in the bottom of them and lift them up. I tried to lift them up onto the stands when the stands were upright, but they are too heavy to try to manipulate that way. I know some people say they don’t like the way the DV12’s look but I think they are awesome looking. When I was in Sweetwater, I tested out RCF’s upper line and still thought they could not compare to the clarity of the bassboss 12’s. They definitely could not cover the low end like the bosses can and the bosses sounded much flatter and accurate to me.
@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss 3 ай бұрын
@@bsbarber73 if they weren't awkward you wouldn't have to lay them down and put all that pressure on your sub pole to lift them up. I know another guy that does that but I don't trust putting that pressure on 4 tiny screws. You should be able to easily lift them up but its hard because of the design and weight. I also have VS21's and when they are in the upright position you have to get on a ladder to get them on the poles (Unless you're super tall). I almost killed myself a few times when I was stuck on my own because there were no where to grab and I was in an odd position on a ladder. Not doubting its sound at all. I like the sound of the DV12 too and have made a suggestion to Bassboss to make a lighter version that is designed to be used with subs with better ergonomics. Meyer X20 is 27lbs and just as loud if not louder than the DV12. Clarity is better too. It is also a wooden cabinet . This is how I know David can do it because its been done.
@bsbarber73
@bsbarber73 3 ай бұрын
@@FinestEventssI don’t typically put them on the sub. Usually the sub is center stage. If and when I get another sub I will probably do that and actually might be easier to lift if standing on the sub. My tripods are beefy and hydraulic so really it is one motion and they go up quick. The ones you mentioned I’m sure are great but no way I can afford double the cost per speaker. Don’t make enough off of gigs to justify spending any more than I did. Maybe later down the line but just bought these and pretty happy for now.

Rcf for the win. It’s amazing that It gave you a consistent volume overall in frequencies 300hz and up at 25ft which will be your average distance of people during a show for dancing. which is exactly what you need to when using a separate woofer. That meAns the rcf will actually sound louder and more clear throughout the whole gig vs the bass boss with inconsistent frequency volumes at those frequencies. Although you may feel the bass boss sounds better with the bass. The bass is an easy fix especially when using an external woofer. I just don’t see the worth of almost double the price for a bass boss when it’s missing almost all of the frequencies you need using a full range system🤷🏾‍♂️ especially for a 1-3 db difference since the human ear will find it hard to differentiate that sound in real time.
@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss Жыл бұрын
They were very close overall. The RCF sounded louder to my ears but it is much more harsh at high volume. I think that perception of louder to my ear was the HF boost that RCF seems to have even when playing flat. The Bassboss is much easier on the ear even at high spl. They are both great speakers. If you want overall loudness, the RCF wins. If you want a better sound, the Bassboss was the winner. These are just my own opinions from being able to compare. For the difference in cost, I agree it is hard to justify.
@JoeWinsome
@JoeWinsome Жыл бұрын
@@FinestEventss i think you’re absolutely right on the rcf sounding louder maybe and even harsher but it’s probably due to the fact that it doesn’t need to be soo loud to project those mid to high frequencies. It only makes sense. But it was probably meant to shine with an external woofer instead of a stand alone which is my thought, when using a full range system the rfc will sound better and fill in the gaps much cleaner than the bass boss. Thanks for this man. I’ve always wondered how these compared.

@@jack3400 I personally prefer the sound of the DV12 and is what I kept and currently still own (MK2). Since this review Bassboss has come out with MK2 and now MK3 versions. They have improved every version. I have been told but haven't heard the MK3 is even better. They are two completely different sounds. IMO the DV12 at high volume remains smooth and not harsh. It seems to my ears that the TT has a louder high end but at the sacrifice of sound quality. They hurt my ears at high volume and tend to have a boost in high frequencies as shown by my testing. I would give the Bassboss DV12 MK2 or MK3 a good look. I have heard good about the HDM45a too, but it has a similar syle horn to the TT and I have never heard them to confirm. Good luck in your search as sound is so subjective.

@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss 2 жыл бұрын
They are both great speakers, I don't think you would be disappointed with either. I think you should decide on which type of dispersion you prefer? The RCF is narrow and the Bassboss is 120 degrees. They both get loud and are clean. I personally use the DV12 MK2 now and I cannot say how many you can put on a breaker. They are very efficient and pulled less power than my Evox 8's when I measured them on my amp meter. They also can be crossed over at 4 preset points. The more low end you take out the more you can run (This is when you run with subs). Hope that helps.
