I like videos like this, because they get straight to the point, and they don't talk about the dreams they had last night.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks mate, exactly what I was trying to achieve 👌
@markrigg662315 күн бұрын
That's not "straight to the spool" dude. The electrical tape voids that term. And the tape isn't acting as a cushion so much as it is providing grip. The type of knot you use on the spool core is irrelevant as well.

Never thought of doing a uni knot, definitely gonna start doing this for now on thanks for the advise

Awesome! Thanks for this. Every other video I've come across demonstrated spooling braid with a mono backer. My braid will fill my reel though, so I didn't want to go buy mono just to stop slipping.

Great video. I spooled my reel earlier today before watching this. I used a uniknot but your method of tying the knot first then attaching it to the reel is much easier.

can I use this method with regular line not braided ??
@Whyyyyyy2 ай бұрын
My understanding is it will just be overkill, but it'll work just fine. But with mono you can just tie a simple overhand knot around the reel and be fine because mono line grips the reel so much better.

Great video. However, I didn't bother with the tape. I found it unnecessary because most reels today are etched. The tape does take up spool space, although I'll never get that far down. With your uni-knot, the more pressure on the line, the tighter it grips. This is my go-to video for spooling braid. Thanks!

Do need mono backing at all? First time putting braid onto a reel.
@Deanobravio8 ай бұрын
In this case, no you don't. But if you don't have enough braid to fill the reel then yes you could use mono to back the braid. If that's the case you won't need the electrical tape for the mono 👍

I just like to have that cushion to bight into. Without the electrical tape you increase the chance of slippage

Im so tired of BCF tying my spool with new expensive braid using their high tech machine..... only to have the line catch on their 'bowl of noodles' knot... to the point where I think its by design so you end up replacing braid quickly... So despite their 'tech' machine I will only ever tie my own.

I guess it can be like any tool or machine, it still comes down to the operator and their abilities 👌🎣🐟

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Kershaw Braid scissors. Don't do what I do and use them for everything including heavy leaders and they'll serve you very well for cutting your braided lines and light mono 👌
