"Great review! I want to say upfront that I am not an internet troll. I am a professional instructor with more than a few years of operational experience under my belt. I have great respect for Mr. West, his training and his reliable information in the EP space. However, there is the issue that I have with just about every single sling bag on the market, and I TEACH this to all of our LE and EP students, because the sling bag trend is a DANGEROUS one. It is dangerous because they have a fatal flaw that I have yet to hear any EP trainer teach to their students. Follow me closely on this. Usually, by design, one or both ends of the shoulder strap on a sling bag have a quick release buckle- yes, a QUICK release buckle! Now STOP and THINK about that for a moment. If you are wearing a sling bag and it is on your back, what kind of an operational @#$%&-UP does that create for an EP agent and his client? Again, STOP and THINK about that for a moment- a quick release buckle!!! I train ALL my students on this HUGE flaw and then demonstrate it to them for emphasis. If the sling bag is on your back, someone can easily, with ONE HAND, disconnect the entire bag, and ALL ITS CONTENTS, from your body in LESS than a split second! The VIKTOS bag is no different (look closely where the quick release buckle is located)! So, now what do you do as an EP agent who just had his sling bag taken off his body? Do you try and recover your bag or do stay with your client? Hmmmm…. Oh, but wait, the bag has ROOM KEYS in it for your room AND the clients room! Do you just let those go and stay with your client? Do you stop your client (interrupt) and confront the person(s) taking the bag. But wait, what about your client if your eyes are not him/her? What if your sling bag has a firearm? Now you are really in a bad situation! From the half second it takes me to take that bag from a student, its creates MAJOR vulnerabilities for both the EP agent and the client. And I can tell you that most agents are NOT mentally equipped to handle the immediate #$%^ STORM that situation creates, not even with seasoned EP professionals! So, with that in mind, IF you are going to carry a sling bag (and that is a huge if), you had better take the time to really think about which one you carry, how it is configured, what you put in it and where you put it on your body! If you are going to carry a tourniquet, DON'T put it behind an elastic strap! Think easy, one-handed tear away access. And if you carry a firearm in your sling bag, I will share with you what I always teach my students-- a trained perpetrator (like me when I play the bad guy in class) who commits a crime doesn't need a gun or other weapon if they are capable of taking YOURS! Just some food for thought from someone who had been around the block and done a few things here and there."
