it's really up to you imo. Personally, i prefer the nano more, since i like the simplicity of not having a sump, and to save money on a skimmer and a light, as the set comes with them already. But hey, the 170 is bigger so you can have more room for corals.

not the best one on the market, but it does grow corals. The euphyllias and some beginner SPS has been growing at a decent speed. As for skimmer, it's dead silent. Just sometimes it works too well, pulling too much nutrients out of the tank, i have to dose NO3. Hope this helps

Plenty for lps. Sps it depends. Pushing it with Acros, but for easier ones like monti, birdnest, it should be fine

it took mine almost 2 months to finally break in. my recommendation is to let it run its course and it'll stop eventually. don't change the water intake in too much

Stock pump should be fine if you want to keep simple corals like beginner lps and softies. I added a jebao slw 20 in because I will be keeping acros in thr future. As far as the lid goes, I bought it separately. It's the redsea custom lid 24x24

Hi Brian, the goal of the tank is going to be a mixed reef. With lots of euphullias and some easy sps on the top (maybe an acro or 2 as well). I just use the 23k setting on the reef led 50 with 8hr peak time at 80% blue and 20% white. Hope this help. Parameter wise I try to keep ca:400 kh:8-12 mg: 1300-1400, salinity: 1.025 ph:8.4

I listened to you on the prior set up video on tank stand colors. I am going to make the right choice and pick the black for my wife. Thank you for the support! I'm definitely in love with the tank so far and would highly recommend it. One thing I'd upgrade soon in the future is the return pump, being 240 gal an hour I don't think it's enough for it. As far as sand goes, just think of the simple rule "happy wife, happy tank"
