You have one of the best videos on eating disorders. I was a people pleaser and perfectionist. I always hated my body, but I have not been bulimic in 30 years.

Thank you for including the brain, when your body starves your brain starves. The challenge was training the cooperation of my appetite and recognizing the connection between brain and stomach. Don't be scared,be prepared. There are going to be good days and challenging days- Keep your favorite foods for those challenging days.

Wow. I can finally understand some of my thinking. I've been searching so hard to find why I'm like this, and in this situation, even though I've done nothing but attain. I'm so lost.

I am a caregiver for an 86 year old woman who has lost 40 ponds in one year. I have told her family that she is dangerously thin and I'm concerned she's going to fall because she is often very dizzy and just st!ys in bed.

Thank you for such an eloquent perspective. It is extremely helpful with anxiety, depression, perfection and eating disorders. The reality of co-occurring illnesses is so frequent and does not get talked about enough. So much gratitude.

Can you have an eating disorder and still be considered “obese”? I binge and purge constantly and my weight has fluctuated from obese to normal in between I also do a ton of walking and monitor that constantly is that normal?

Definitely, it’s called an “eating disorder” not a “weight disorder”

Thank you so much for this video. I’m a 34yo female in recovery from a 6year battle with bulimia (self-induced v.) and the “food is my medicine” and “keep your body fueled through out the day” really spoke to me. My husband and ED therapist are big supports in my life, but I still watch these videos when I start to struggle. Thank you ❤

Thank you! I am a peer counselor using my lived experience to support people with eating disorders and I was polling people on my instagram about perfectionism and their eating disorder recovery. EVERYONE reported experiencing perfectionism with their ED. I love your idea of making school systems that make space for students to safely fail and that teach and encourage failure and mistakes as part of the growth process. Thanks again!

Many men DO want to be very thin. Why do subcultures like punk, indie rock, emo, goth and hipster always get forgotten about in any discussion about mental health? Every mental health campaign seems to made by the dominant subculture for the dominant subculture, assuming that everyone wants the same things and wants the same kind of lifestyles and careers, is reading the same magazines, watches the same type of movies and listening to the same music. This is just one example among many but it really makes a difference because men in alternative subcultures with eating disorders just get even more of a message that they don't fit in and aren't 'being a man right' because they DO want to look good in skinny jeans, use party drugs to help lose weight, idolise and are surrounded by women who idolise skinny indie band drummers instead of sports stars and Hollywood leading men, and hate to exercise. Not everyone with a mental health problem is a jock or wannabe jock who aims for 2.5 children and a white picket fence.

If food is our medicine, why is the fight so hard? I lost my family support. I’ve been dealing with this for years, almost 40 years to be exact. I’m alone. My struggle is real, just like so many other sufferers. I like what I’m hearing from you ladies. Thanks. Nutrition in detail would be a great topic for discussion.

Yeah, it is definetaly a tough thing to deal with the idea of having such problems as a male, since it is stigmatised and on top of that having to deal with the psychological and physicial problems associated with it.
