We bought a new 2014 Odyssey. I had heard about possible problems with the VCM system, so soon I bought a VCMuzzler from a Canadian source, which I assume was the original developer. It was the simplest install possible, being simply a section of wire with a resistor in it to fool the computer into sensing that the engine had not reached operating temperature, which disallowed the VCM to operate. It was simply a matter of unplugging the coolant temperature sensor wire and inserting the pigtail containing the resistor between the sensor and the wire to the computer. I have a Scan Gauge, which shows real-time coolant temperature, which was 180+ degrees, as new, and now is normally 159 degrees. We were in Illinois when I installed the Muzzler and drove home to California. My fuel consumption for the 2400 mile trip was 25.4 mpg. The eastward trip, over the same route without the Muzzler had been 25.4 mpg. The VCMuzzler has been in place for ten years, with NO downsides. Best modification I have ever done to a vehicle!

Interesting. To give another perspective, our 07 Odyssey just turned over 292,000 miles with the VCM active since new. It still runs great, uses no oil and the spark plugs looked fine on the two occasions when I changed them. So the “issues“ others have reported are not universal with the VCM system.

Honda should have installed a compression release on the 3 cylinders that the VCM manages that way it will not push the oil out! I have 92k miles and it pushed 1 quart every two weeks!

If you do not disable the vcm you will need to change your oil every 4000 miles, Decarbonized the pistons every 10000 miles and engine flush every 40000 miles. Carbon gets stuck in the piston rings which causes it to burn oil in the chamber and your oil will degrade much faster. And if you are listened to Honda and changing your oil every 10000 miles you will get this issue by 60000 miles. For all that have this issue, remove the spark plugs and do a piston head soak. Change the oil more frequently with high quality oil. Do not trust a honda mechanic. You should be changing your own oil.

18:57 I always look behind my back and check blind spots. Back-up cameras are nice, but it costs nothing to use eyes. Miss with those 'assists', all they do is increase the cost of repair when I gotta go replace those sensors and have them recalibrated as well.

I installed on a 2013 Odyssey two years ago and 50,000 miles later. Still operating great. Smoothest running engine I’ve ever owned. No oil consumption between 5000 mile changes. I did run a couple bottles of Chevron Techron through it to help clean some combustion chamber carbon.

Good job I just replaced my tank and sender on my 71 you can see it on my channel. Your cowl tag should tell you the paint code and you vin tag will call out the engine size "D" for 250 L6 "H" for 350 2 barrel "K" for 350 L48 or "L" 350 LM1 I would suspect your car was built in "K" Kansas City, or "L" Van Nuys CA as you found the build sheet. "W" Willow Run cars almost never have a built sheet. If you can read the build sheet it will give you all the codes. Well done i look forward to more videos on your car. Subscribed

Just received mine. Red goes to the positive terminal on your battery. The green and blue just hang out of the way during normal operation, but the green I believe is used to re-engage the VCM feature for the vehicle when it’s connected to a ground point. Not sure what blue is for yet.

I’m a 77 yoa person backyard mechanic. I installed the VCM Tuner II on my 2021 Pilot Elite at about 1000 miles since new. It was very easy to install and has worked perfectly as advertised as verified by my Blue Driver OBD II tester. I’m convinced it will save my spark plugs, piston rings, torque converter, and electronic engine mounts. I can’t say enough good about VCM Tuner II. Best $130 I ever spent. Great video. Thanks so much. If you want your engine to last, change oil & filter every 5000 miles!

Hello, just ran into your video which by the way it’s great. I have a 2008 Odyssey that after putting in a new set of gaskets on the front oil pressure switch the VCM started acting up ( before never had any issues) now out of no where cylinder #4 seems to be misfiring and it’s not the coil or spark plug! I am guessing it’s loosing compression. Do you think the rings on that cylinder might’ve messed up some how?

Had a 2014 Odyssey with 86,000 miles on it fouled cylinder 1 about once a week. Installed a VCM 2 Tuner and issue went away. Car ran much better when it was always running on six instead of BS eco four cylinders. Once installed I checked an oily plug every two days for a few weeks and watched the plug end up clean. Honda needs another class action on 2014 and above.

What makes this an excellent instructional video is the attention to detail. If you've never taken all the plastics out of an engine compartment, you could spend all day figuring it out. Now, it should only take a few minutes because we've been shown. Even down to taping up the positive battery terminal. Priceless. You'll understand if you burn out your car's computer and have to buy a new one. I've got a question in to VCM Tuner but I think you've answered my question in the description. For their VCM II tuners, they specifically mention the Honda Acura. Does that mean the original VCM tuner is for most I-VTEC Honda engines and the VCM II is only for the Acura? I've got a 2007 Honda Odyssey with 85K miles and inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah I really hope honda can meet or improve CAFE standards without VCM, I disabled VCM on my 2017 ridgeline after replacing the injector( warranty) and 90k service at my local car wizard ( spark plugs, timing belt, tensioner, and water pump) The rear bank plug, they were much worst than the family sienna at over 250k with black soot around the thread Honda can say what they want about improving VCM but all it does is impress car reviewer " beating the EPA estimates on our test " having the car for a week Where as for me at over 150k miles yeah it was nice for the first 75k-80k getting 30s mpg steady state freeway but after fouling injectors, dirty spark plug, and rpm flutter not to mention extra ATF wear as it has to slip the clutch to engage VCM.... I'm still a Honda fan but its clear this was more of a band-aid fix than something that toyota did with dual injection and Atkinson cycle
