Lived in Ballymun in the 90s. This video looks like Utopian society compared to the kip I grew up in. Drugs ruined the place. But one thing I did remember was the close knit community my Mum had in her company. Some great characters! As a kid, the place was dog eat dog world and sometimes feel I was lucky to get out alive as so many of my friends did not.

I grew up there in the 70's and yes it became a very dangerous place. I left in 78/9 but went back for a year in the 90's. For all the bad there were some amazing people but yes definitely dog eat dog.

Nice1. At last a positive spin. Most videos on the Mun have depressing music and convey misery but not this one.👍

The Ballymun I knew and loved, I grew up in Balcurris gardens, from Feb 67-Sep-81 I loved everyday of every month of every year, And the community was special ,neighbors the best you could ask for, Balcurris 77-83 was the best times, and Shangan ,but late 70's everyone around Ballymun would be up in Balcurris all along the first block. Always something to do summer spring winter or fall. Never a dull moment in the Mun. Now It's like some foreign place the way they replaced the flats.

most of this vid is from a short film made in the eighties not all locals a lot of actors at bus stop guy on steps at the back of the towers is an actor so put up real clips not movie clips changed to b/w and make out it's original footage.

It has great memories for me as I lived on sillouge road from 1970 to 1975 and then moved to cairn court where I was friends with Joseph o neill and his sister eileen , I left there in 1978 and always wondered what happened to them.

@@paulmcglue5371 some of the cars only dated from early seventies, and were unlikely to be brand new, so a bit later. The orange (or biscuit yellow) livery on the C class bus only started about 1974. The driver is collecting the fares as the passengers boarded. I don't know when exactly this started on buses in Dublin city services, but it followed many years of dispute, (younger viewers will not remember when buses were operated by two men, a driver and a conductor). The bus does a good speed around the roundabout, no speed humps then, nor traffic congestion in Ballymun.

Grew up beside Ballymun, played for Kickhams... great people, great place and it's future is bright ... but it's still being ruined by the minority and as long as these wankers believe they are entitled to so much, while contributing nothing to society continues - then nothing will change. Where there's no self worth, there's no ambition. there's no drive to become a better person.
