Hello. I am currently pursuing a master's degree in the Statistics major at Gazi University. My thesis topic focuses on Ridge, LASSO, and Elastic Net regression. I have just started working on my thesis and conducting research. However, I've encountered a problem, and since you seem knowledgeable about this topic, I wanted to ask you. My advisor suggested that, in order to better understand the subject, I should manually solve Ridge and LASSO regression models on a small dataset without using any software. I managed to perform Ridge regression, but I got stuck with LASSO because it doesn't have a closed-form solution. I've been searching online, but I couldn't find the information I need. As you know, I need to use the formula Σ(yᵢ - Σxᵢⱼβⱼ)² + λΣ|βⱼ|, but I can't seem to fit the values properly. For example, let's say we have built a linear regression model for Y = Bo + B1X1 using the dataset. How can I obtain the beta coefficients for this model using LASSO regression (by adding a penalty term)? I couldn't calculate it using the given formula (RSS + penalty term), to be honest. I would greatly appreciate your help. I hope I've been able to explain my problem.

Hello. Your content is very good. I want to consult you about something. What analysis should we do in the Stata program to find the average annual growth rate of per capita income in 2000-2020? For example, let's say we have a data set like this: Year; 2000 - 2001 - 2002 - 2003 - 2004, Revenue (thousand dollar); 10 - 12 - 13.5 - 14.2 - 17. If we want to comment on the average growth rate for these 5 years, which statistical model will we use in Stata?

Your explanation is very useful to me, thanks for that. One question though: what does it mean if the independent continuous variable becomes insignificant when adding the interaction term? For my thesis, I include an interaction term (risk-free rate * negative risk-free rate dummy) and find that the effect of the risk-free rate on risk-taking (DV) becomes insignificant when adding the interaction term. How should I interpret that?
