Vilayat Khan's mastery is obvious here in this video. Pandit Ravi Shankar seems to have been encouraged suppressing Vilatat's mastery. But History will remember him as the greatest master of the sitar.

I am a great fan of Sitar and heard many maestros playing the instrument. While all of them were great in their own way, Vilayat Khan shaab had different level of peace or bliss in his recitals. Take my revered pranam Ustad Ji.

During the last century, the only instrumentalists that mattered were Vilayat Khan & Ali Akbar Khan becos their devotion to their instruments was so great that they became part of the instrument itself. The rest were acolytes.

Listening to Ustad Vilayat Khan requires a certain level of knowledge of classical music, otherwise one cannot feel the gravity of his recitals.....

Vilayat Khan was the God of Sitar. When the Creator asked other sitarists, they probably wanted awards and accolades, but VK wanted only sitar, .. or maybe sitar wanted him !!!

Best live programs of sitar with average perfection is of PNB. PRS is ok. UVK is both boring with same repeating techniques and even some time out of tune and some time with very magical beauty. He was able to spellbound more with his stories than music but his studio recording are most perfect and full of musically highest quality.
