Hi. No, the CAT4 & Genny does not detect water pipes unless they are copper or any other metal. And it cannot detect fibre unless they are in a metal conduit.

Hi, sorry about the late reply. We do not know how to calibrate the motors, only Sumitomo has the passcode that allows them to enter the debug mode to modify the motors. I believe it also requires opening the unit and resetting the position of the gears.

No, without internet access, you cannot use SAA. However, if your unit has WIFi, you can use your mobile phone as a HotSpot and use it like that instead.

Yes it can. But it may look noisy because the Genny might be transmitting over all of the rebar. Sometimes it can help holding the CAT4 up to your chest to clear some of the noise.

Hi Michael, thank you for your comment. A VFL is an excellent tool for finding faults especially if looking for a break. Using an OTDR you can check this in real time looking for a loose connection and Inspect the port with a Fibre Scope before moving to check the Splice at the BJL. I'm told that Telstra are reviewing every trace submitted and want every Spitter, Splice or Connector within the Event Loss Criteria set by the NBN.

It's not enough to rely on a *red light* when fault finding on an aging CATV network nor is it realistic to walk 18k lifting pits and exposing trays, then of course, there's the real risk of creating faults when disturbing joints. Experienced engineers will use a light source, red light and an OTDR running real time looking for the end of the trace to dip when some one at the other end bends the fibre.

JabaarHD Thank you for your comment. In the interim, for example if the red lead was damaged, I would swap with the blue lead to carry out some basic 1 pair tests. Please call the office on 1800 680 680 (Australia) to purchase a replacement lead ASAP.
