What an absolutely gorgeous and powerful song. It is nice to see Chris Bell acknowledged and appreciated, though, sadly, it did not occur in his lifetime. This is a great performance of the song, and it’s nice to see Alex Chilton in this tribute to his bandmate. Chilton, Bell, Stephens and Hummel made one of the greatest records of all time.

Life is strange. Alex could’ve been a mega-star, and if you could be a mega-star, wouldn’t you, most likely? , but that just wasn’t Alex.

I know it's too late but I like to think that guys who came up with the best song for TV show intro I really missed that 70 show. Thank you very much.

They were so ahead of their time!! Can’t believe this song came out in 73?? imagine if this came out in the same era as britpop or just alongside guided by voices in the 90’s… they would’ve been among the best of the best!

I personally prefer the version by the Bangles. Their vocals are so much better.

Great performance. It's good they didn't go the 'tribute band' route and really try to recreate the recorded song. It's raucous and is certainly reverential to the original but it's still vital and sounds like a new song, not a worn 20-year-old warhorse.

My drummer introduced me to Big Star in 1999 I think. What a sad story. They drserved better, but the legend lives on. Real art floats to the surface of History.

Qué buen tema por dios ... Esas voces! Por qué no tuvieron más éxito es un misterio. Pero una cosa es cierta, con el pasar de los años este disco sigue fresco y hermoso, sin embargo la onda más electrónica de sobre el final de la carrera no envejeció igual de bien.

I see your point, but to be pedantic, the first Big Star reunion show was a free show for SpringFest at the University of Missouri. I doubt Alex got paid anything beyond travel expenses.
@zippymufo9765
@zippymufo9765 2 ай бұрын
@@chasejohnston5240Not exactly true. It started off with the college only offering expenses, but a deal was made to record and film it for a live album and video, and they received a decent upfront advance on that. You can be assured that Alex was only there because of that advance money, and everyone else in that version of the band has confirmed it.

@@chasejohnston5240Yeah, he was always pretty honest about the fact that he thought Big Star's work was embarrassing. I'm sure many musicians are annoyed about fans focusing on their early work and ignoring what they've done since, but they pretend to enjoy it to make fans happy. He was like "Whatever, just give me the check".
