Thanks for the views. They shut down the High Sierra Camps during the COVID lockdown and -- plainly -- still haven't reopened them. Since they are bear-attracters, you benefited. It's pronounced MerSED.

Hey Troy, hope you’re well. Revisiting this video to prep myself for this trail in a couple weeks. I hiked it in 2017 so I’m excited to make a return. Getting any hiking in this summer?

The Dachau Concentration Camp, from 1933 to 1945, lasted almost as long as the Third Reich existed. Dachau was the first & most important concentration camp at which German doctors & scientists set up laboratories using inmates as involuntary guinea pigs. The regulations institutionalized by the SS over prisoners was characterized by tyranny & terror. Hitler ordered the SS to murder his political opponents throughout the Third Reich. The role of this massacre contributed decisively in its rise in power. It became known as the “Dachau-model” & developed the standard to be followed in all other concentration camps. Hitler decided to utilize the concentration camp system as a permanent instrument of political terror. Prisoners lived in constant fear of brutal treatment and terror detention including standing-cells, floggings, the so-called tree or pole-hanging, and standing at attention for extremely long periods of time. There are 32,000 documented deaths at Dachau and thousands more undocumented. After the war, Dachau held SS soldiers awaiting trial. After 1948, it held ethnic Germans who had been expelled from Eastern Europe, and were awaiting resettlement. It was also used as a U.S. Military base during the occupation. It was finally closed in 1960.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. You keep saying it was harder than you imagined yet you still powered through and kept the video upbeat and interesting. I missed my window of opportunity to hike this trail as I have AFib 24/7 now so it would only be a slog. It's so great to see someone enjoying the trail without turning it into a race or some sort of endurance or speed challenge....thanks so much for sharing.
