Also pumpkins were not first, but turnips. I'm Christian and I celebrate but I didn't do any summoning or spells. Actually Halloween is derived from originally All hallows Eve which is memory of saints and the dead that have gone before us. If you are summoning them and wanting them to come then yeah you're doing witchcraft however there is nothing wrong with remembering them. If you're going to not celebrate Halloween then you better stop celebrating Christmas which was called Yule and you better stop celebrating Easter which was based off of the fertility goddess. November 1st and November 2nd is considered All souls day and all saints Day and I observe those days too and remember ends of the saints and the souls such as my mom who has passed on in memory of them. The reason it is related to death is because at that time things were starting to die such as the trees the flowers and it was also the end of the harvest. When they seen plants and everything dying it would have appeared to them that it was a time of death which it is. I understand some people don't celebrate but I was raised with people that would not let me celebrate at all and that's not right. Every year I decorate hardcore and I'm very much in love with Halloween however I don't do any spells or summoning. Again it has to do with how you celebrate it.
