This is easily the best tour of a carrier I've found on this site. It shows so much more of what it's like to just be onboard without the annoying editing and production of most videos

I was part of the pre-commissioning comms crew for 50 days in fall '71 at NAS NORIS, in modules aboard Bunker Hill, CV-17. I sent the first message accepted and processed by the NAVCOMPARS system. It was a short Routine message, sent to NCS San Diego.

Who are all the civilians (I think) dressed in civilian clothing, you see around the ship ? Or are they just off duty officers, airmen, and sailors ? I guess it’s a city though, so that’s what you’d see.

As a civilian, the amazing thing is he mostly knows where he is in that labyrinth of passageways !

Old video but very cool. If you dropped me in there right now, I would be lost as shit. I was in the Navy for six years, but on a Spruance class. We didn't have the massive long hallways you see here. Lost, I would be lost.

Thanks for the video, it brings back memories, I spent four years on her from 1980-84, was aboard during a horrific plane crash, did two med cruises and spent my final year in dry dock in Newport News,Va. I met lifelong brothers during my enlistment and I hope to go aboard one more time before they put her away.

Nice to see the inside of the old girl again. I was SEAOPDET in AIMD (IM3 W/C 69A) for the '95-'96 WESTPAC. Broke my hand during workups off the coast of California and got to take a cat-shot in a COD back to North Island. Good times!
