I'm not sure where this was performed, but this video is an important public record of the Anthony Minghella staging that has proven so durable at the Met in NYC (and that Grigorian sang in March, superb). This staging is just simply magical.

Un bel artiste Bernheim. Quel bonheur d'entendre un vrai ténor français. Le metteur en scene fait tout pour distraire de la musique; c'est une honte. Pourquoi le monde lyrique est-il aux mains de ces imposteurs sans le moindre sensibilité musicale?

Juan Diego Florez e’ un grande cantante e avercene altri cosi, pero’ come cantava Pavarotti questa parte, non c’e’ nessuno!!! Sia chiaro siamo sempre a livelli altissimi ma c’e’ una registrazione di Pavarotti giovane che e’ meravigliosa!!! PS, sono Italiano e sento dei piccoli difetti di pronuncia, il nostro orecchio li sente e non c’e’ niente da fare!! Non imputo niente a JDF su questo punto, uno straniero non potrà mai avere una dizione perfetta nella lingua non sua.

At last a soprano in the tradition of Muzio, and Stratas. Vocally interesting, fearless and totally committed. Something mysterious and eccentric about her. I have always loved this type of rare singer. Others were Albanese, Rysanek, Olivero. Singers who have balls and dont give a damn about critics. I hope we see a lot of her. Or she could be poised for her tragic fall. Either way I will be watching. Very excited about her.

I like him too... Especially his acting.. he is instantly attracted to Butterfly... The way he smells her. .. and kisses the side of her neck... So so believable I love this duet.. so beautiful and sensual

Why is this middle-aged soprano singing the role of a fifteen-year-old girl? Of course, she has a great voice but it could be more appropriate elsewhere! He stage presence in this rendition is, seemingly, in no way connected to the role. She would certainly be fantastic elsewhere.

Bad singing. Vibrato issues. Weak lower voice without proper chestvoice. Typical modern voice singing too heavy music. Muti for example should know better…
