Hi , i have a very old Alvey 500 b3 4.5 inch wooden reel , do i need a conversion part to alter the reel fitment so it turns clockwise ie i want to use my left hand to wind handles, i would be very grateful for your reply , all the best , David . ps unfortunately i live in the UK.

It looks like the same spring; I guess that's why you don't sell an LH model of it.

What ever you set the "drag" at, that's how difficult it is to reel. I bought a 40B XL, and boy do I regret it.

just a couple of points not clear to me, i'm guessing you need to order additional parts to convert to lefty, is this correct? my reel is similar to the one shown, i've tried using the alvey reel for the first time as a friend gave me one and i am a fan of this type of reel. I'm having a little trouble starting of using it after I cast it seems it does not lock and the line freespools so if a fish gets hooked it just freespools hence i have to hold the reel for it not to freespool, solution pls?
