@@cl9826 nWb is short for nanoWebers, a measure of magnetic flux strength. In reference to tape recorder calibration, the term nWb/M, or nanoWebers per meter, is used to specify the strength of the magnetic field stored on the tape when the meters read 0VU (standard record level). A higher level (more nWb) gives a higher signal-to-noise ratio, meaning less tape hiss, but push the level too high and you get distortion.

A question: Is not a 250nWb level too high for this Akai? Is saturation at 3 3/4 speed not exaggerated? Best Regards.
@claudiolowtanne45125 жыл бұрын
Probably, but I set the bias calibration for RMG900 tape and this tape has a lot of headroom even at 3 1/2. But there is a drawback anyway. 250nW/m is always high for a 4 tracks recorder due to crosstalk in adyacent tracks.
@leandrolindemann43125 жыл бұрын
@@claudiolowtanne4512 Thanks for your response. I calibrated my Akai GX-625 with 200nWb level. Regarding bias calibration, did you calibrate the bias according to the tape manufacturer or how does Akai report in the manual service? My experience with the LPR-35 showed that calibrating the bias according to the orientation of the RGM for LPR-35 (overbias of 0.5db in 7 1/2) resulted in the need to change in the EQ Record due to the gain of high frequencies generated by these modern formulation tapes.
