How much is the average housing rent in Helsinki or populated areas?
@MillaExplores21 күн бұрын
This of course depends a lot on the area, size of the apartment etc. I'm not super familiar with rent in Helsinki as I live in another city but me and my partner pay around 900€ a month for the both of us and that's currently a pretty normal rent in the mid-size/bigger cities. Add a few hundred euros on top of that for rentals in Helsinki area. :)

Hi! I’m thinking of applying for my PhD in Finland. I know the social culture sounds similar to my preferences, but I was wondering if you recommend a good way to make acquaintances in advance? Or any advice in general coming from the US?
@MillaExploresАй бұрын
Hi! That sounds great, good luck! 😊 In advance I'm not sure, but I would maybe try to look for some Facebook groups for expats/foreigners in Finland and the Couchsurfing app might also be worth a try. Once you're in Finland, depending on the location you could find a hobby where it's easy-ish to meet new people (crossfit is a good one) or join local networking event (these are common in Helsinki and usually announced on Linkedin). When it comes to meeting people, Finland is very different to the US. It might be hard to get to know people and small talk isn't really a big thing but once you find people to hang out with, it's easy to make lifelong connections. Finnish people can seem introverted at first but once you get to know Finns, they're easy going and honest. 😊

Yes you can! I will do a full Koh Tao guide soon & talk about these things too. Oh that would be lovely! Finnish winter is cold but magical 😁 I recommend visiting Lapland in the winter. I believe there are some flights from the UK to Northern parts on Finland in the winter time, probably to Rovaniemi or Kittilä. In Rovaniemi you'll find Santa Claus' village which is super cute. In Levi/Kittilä, you can go downhill skiing, and also I have a friend who arranges wonderful trips in the area, he's a super cool guy so I can highly recommend his company: www.arctichousesafaris.com ☺️

Not impossible at all! I met many people along the way who traveled without a car. The buses run smoothly most of the time but just be prepared to wait. There are usually no schedules, instead the buses leave once they're full :)

I only used a taxi to get from Tirana airport to the bus station when I headed to Berat. That was around 10-15 minutes and cost about 20 euros so quite expensive. Otherwise I just used buses :)

Congrats 🎉 I like your style! Would have packed the same yet differently 😉…. I went to Lisbon then Porto last September and loved it ! After went to Spain-Seville than Barcelona. Was a fabulous experience! I took a bigger travel pack, had lots of extra space yet still could have packed less thou I didn’t take a ton still well I’m looking at smaller packs that are more comfortable now. Maybe like you just a personal allowance size. As less can be more lol. I’m going to Thailand so been looking at Osprey packs as the back vents seem awesome for its hot climate. Anyway thanks for sharing! Did you have fun at surf camp? I found the weather at the beginning, all thru holiday very warm/hot! I packed a thin windbreaker very small umbrella and thin merino sweater each came in handy however wow the rain poured thou was short downpour. So mostly just got to a cafe until it stopped. Never wore the other layers until I got to England which was glad had something warmer. Can be tricky to predict while keeping it lite eh. And if like me, I would rather shop for something new than something I already own. Have a few months to try packs with what will bring as like to get the new pack for years of traveling. Getting sober was the best gift because well it’s healthy which includes money now to spend instead on visiting places. Well I’m interested in if you’re doing more travel, surfing and how liked the pack? Lol novel comment 😆✌🏽🍀🌞
@MillaExplores5 ай бұрын
Thank you! 🤩 Lisbon and Porto are wonderful cities! And Barcelona, too - I lived there for 5 months and loved it. When traveling light you realize how little stuff you actually need haha, you can almost always pack less, especially in warmer climates. I agree that less is more when packing, it makes it so much easier to carry everything and move around. Osprey packs are great! The surf camp was a lot of fun, I can highly recommend it if you're interested in surfing. 😁 Congrats on your sober journey! Fantastic to hear that you're now able to save money to travel more! I'm currently traveling pretty much full-time since September last year & I'll do an updated packing video again in a few weeks. I use the pack in this video as my personal item but also have a 40 liter pack too (a backpack from Tortuga, I have a pretty new video about it on my channel). Enjoy your travels! ☺️
