Locust pilots are either speed freaks, adrenaline junkies, or batshit crazy. The greatest Locust pilot ever was Winston Nearon of the mercenary unit Snord's Irregulars. He was able to overheat a Locust and shut it down in combat...let that sink in for a minute. Since he also collected guns, he simply poped open the canopy and fired pistol and rifle he had stored in his cockpit until he ran out of the ammo. He didn't affect the battle outcome, but it was said he had a grand time doing it.

Very cool series, subbed for more. You should take care to add the newest video to the end of the playlist instead of the top, makes them flow better for people watching later.

That's a great idea! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to implement that, as soon as I can.

These little 'mechs are great in 3025, but by 3050 the proliferation of pulse lasers, LB/X autocannon, and targeting computers makes it likely they will be disabled easily by their larger brethren. Just one more reason 3025 is the best era for BT. Light mechs remain relevant.
@Orcimedes3 күн бұрын
3050 is kind of a bad time for light mechs, especially inner sphere ones. However, with the late 3060's variants and especially the more recent ilClan variants they do regain _a lot_ of usefulness, primarily through speed upgrades.
@WolfHreda5 күн бұрын
The Commando is one of my favorite light 'mechs. If you've got a fairly light lance, the COM-2D should always be on it. Pair it with anything from a Wolfhound to a Panther to a Vindicator. Use the big guns to open up armor, then run in hard with the Commando and start dumping missiles into those critical slots. Works like a charm.
@12crit5 күн бұрын
The ability for most Commando variants to just pepper a target should not be underestimated. Last time I fielded a 2D at an intro game, I managed to get two head shots and two TACs, in a single attack, with one of its SRMs with one of the luckiest series of rolls I've ever had!

the 10srm commando is one of my favourite mechs. A single full backvolley can make it worth its bv.

Very important tactical note for the LCT-1M: It has literally a single ton of armor, that's 16 points total. Do not get this thing anywhere near an enemy. Stay at the absolute outer limits of your LRM medium range whenever possible. Because a single medium laser hit can cripple this Locust. The arms and legs each have a single point of armor, but more importantly they only have 3 and 4 structure, respectively. So a medium laser will remove that likb with a single shot. And if that's one of your legs? You're done.
@12crit16 күн бұрын
Absolutely!

Seeing what 1 ton of armor looks like on the record sheet is a little disconcerting.

Im curious with the insertion of definitions into the sourcebooks you need to remember we couldnt pull out our phone & Google the term, & while you may have had a physical dictionary or encyclopedia set you may not have or weren't the type.of kid or person to take the time to look it up. Funny how we take that for granted here in the future.
@12crit18 күн бұрын
Oh, I'm not young at all and grew up before the Internet age and frequently had to dig out our dictionary. What I was meaning to call out was the phrase itself, along the lines of "the dictionary defines "x" as..." rather than a more natural way to insert the meaning :) Not saying it was a bad idea to define a notably uncommon word, just a minor critique on the way they did it. Even my English teacher from back in the day would call that out. I'll try to do better in the future!

I keep learning as well as I go through making these videos. I'll regularly find a rule that makes me stop and go "oh...oops."
@harvestbladesАй бұрын
I just came across your channel & was glad you mentioned using bottle caps as stand ins for mechs. While the rules can get rather crunching (something I love), it's really quick & easy to pickup & you can add the advanced rilules if & when you'd like. The fact the rules have barely changed in the forty years this game has been around only adds to the appeal & keeping the barrier to entry extremely low. I enjoyed 40k twenty years ago, but now you'll spend a mortgage payment or more just to buy a single army the next rules update may just ruin. You can even download the basic rules & I even believe a hex map from Catalyst Gaming Labs website, & after that I recommend the A Game of Armored Combat box set as you get rules, dice, maps, plastic mechs & some cardboard mechs just to give you even more. It is a fantastic way to get your feet wet & will give you mechs you will continue to use in the future.
@12critАй бұрын
Yeah, I learned how expensive and frustrating an edition change in 40k could be and it REALLY makes me appreciate how consistent BattleTech is, as well as how flexible force building is ("it's salvage!"). Plus, big stompy 'Mechs will never NOT be cool.

I want to start Battletech but my question is, how many miniatures do I need? I saw a 5 pack but do I need more?
@12crit2 ай бұрын
Most players play a 4v4 game. The smallest force pack they sell is 4 models. So if you are just looking for some models to get started, pick whatever pack has the 'Mechs you like the look of. The packs with 4 models will usually run you around $25. While a single pack comes with 4-6 miniatures, keep in mind each of those miniatures have multiple variants to choose from in-game when selecting record-sheets, so there a ton of variety. If looking for a super solid recommendation, I would start with the A Game of Armored Combat. It comes with a good variety of 8 models that will allow you to switch things up from game to game, plus everything else you need to play full games of Classic BattleTech (for 2 players even!), all for $40-$50. If you just want to just dip your toes in, the Beginner Box is a good start. Only comes with 2 models, but it comes with a map and a simplified version of the rules as well. That box runs about $20-$25. Both of those boxes also come with cardboard standees to proxy for 'Mechs as well, which is legal and legit when playing, too. So, you can actually play with no models as long as you have distinct proxies to play with, but a good place to start, model wise, is 4. Hope that helps!
