I like the flanged binding but not sewing it on by machine. The sewing line in the back shows and doesn't give a finished look that I like. Personal preference.

Great technique. I saved this a few years ago and glad I did. It is still the best way and best explanation.

Well that was more of the same. There are umpteen videos showing how to do this. But not a single one that I can find that DEMONSTRATES HOW to calculate the size square needed to make the amount of bias needed. Lots of people GIVE the formula. That means NOTHING to me. I would love it so much if someone anyone SHOWED me HOW to calculate it I have dyscalculia so telling me numbers is the same as giving me a book to read in ancient script. I won’t understand it. Tell me a hundred times. I won’t understand it a hundred times. SHOW me HOW and I’ll get it.

Yes, nobody seems to tell you what an 18 in.² yields, for example

Slipping that over a regular size ironing board would be safer when cutting .

I heard from a previous video that it yields 4 yards of bias. You can make your own 18 inch square and measure after cutting and pass on what you measured.

The square formula link doesn't work again. I found somewhere that says to add 1.5" to the finished square size you need to end up with the correct size. Ex: I need 2"x2" finished squares (I'm doing a small table runner) so I would need 3.5"x3.5" squares to start with before proceeding with the video instructions. *Hopefully* I'm right and don't mess up, but thankfully I should have enough fabric in case I do

I used to have a laminated card that showed this method but when I moved it wasn’t with my sewing items. The card gave square sizes and gave the number of inches that particular square would make. It also showed putting the right sides together and sewing them together. Also drawing the lines. I love this method and think it makes so much sense. I also agree that bias binding is stronger than straight binding for a usable quilt. I hope I can find a chart that shows those sizes. Sue Heinzelman.

Several other people said yours is the fourth video they have watched and the first they really understood. Add me to that list. My granddaughter told me I have ADD and hearing that was like a light bulb going off. Your description and all the hints plus the repetition finally helped me be able to make the binding. Thanks

How did you see the directional lines and why do you say it doesn't matter which line you line up the fabric to? Don't they get sewn adjacent to the previous sewn piece?
