Explanation of poem" Jete pari kintu kano jabo" - I guess it is time to turn around I have gathered so much blackness in both hands , so long But have never thought of you as you really are . Now I stand next to cavern at night The moon beckons: come , oh do come I can go ; I can go whichever way I choose ; But why would I? I would rather kiss the face of my child Go, I shall, But not right now I will take all of you along Won't go alone, untimely , Or, Piles of wood were burning in the crematorium I love, I do love to burn , I want to burn alongside a river.

Jete pari kintu kano jabo " Is a famous Bengali poem by Shakti Chattopadhyay. The title translates to " I can leave, but why should I" ? in English. This poem reflects the poet's contemplation of life's journey and the reason behind it. It delves into the paradox of wanting to move on while feeling tied to the current situation. This poem deals with death, with departure , yet returns again and again to signs of attachment, of affection and love. The mixed narration of life and death , again reminiscent of Jibanananda , stands as a defining quality of Shakti Chattopadhyay's poetry. It is interesting to observe that terms relating to travelling abound in his poetry; it is as if , the poet considers life as a continuing journey , a sojourn that connects the twin points of origination and culmination , that is death. This tendency does often remind us of Baudlaire, of his Le Voyage especially. The poem opens with the speaker acknowledging that it is time for a change , symbolized by the phrase " I guess it is time to turn around". This suggests a desire to shift their perspective and make a change in their life . The line I have gathered so much blackness in both hands , so long may refer to the accumulation of experiences , both positive and negative , over time . The speaker admits that despite the passage of time , they have never truly understood or considered a particular person ("but have never thought of you as you really are") This could represent missed opportunities for connection or understanding in the past.

The imagery of standing next to a cavern at night with the moon beckoning reflects a moment of decision and change. The moon's invitation to come suggests the allure of the unknown and the potential for new experiences. The phrase "I can go; I can go whichever way I choose; But why would I?" captures the speaker's contemplation of leaving. They possess the freedom to choose their path but are hesitant due to the attachment they feel to their current state.

The desire to kiss the face of their child symbolizes a deep emotional connection and a reason to stay. The speaker acknowledges their eventual departure ("Go, I shall, But not right now") and expresses the intention to take everything they hold dear along with them. This signifies their reluctance to leave anything behind or to make a sudden and unprepared departure.

"Jete pari kintu keno jabo " Is a Bengali poem. In English this translates to "I can leave, but why should I go? This line expresses a sense of hesitation or reluctance to depart from a certain place or situation. Poet deals with the themes of life, death, departure and attachment, interwoven with expressions of affection and love. The poem portrays a sense of journey and transformation where the Poet contemplates the choices and attachments in life. These lines of poem evoke images of burning wood in a crematorium, which is a stark reminder of morality and death. However, the poet's desire to burn alongside a river might indicate a longing for a meaningful or profound end to life, linked to the concept of purification and renewal.
