Hi, we are doing the 6-night charter in April on the same size boat but with The Moorings. If you only had 6 nights, which stops would you recommend for a family that is interested in sailing/adventure/hiking/exploring as opposed to visiting bars? I assume Anegada and the baths are a must. Thanks! @sailingskyward
@dwfletch2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Jeff. Firstly: you're going to have a great time and make some wonderful memories, I'm sure! The baths is certainly a wonderful sight and a lot of fun to explore. We were lucky it was quiet when we went; I hear it can become unpleasantly crowded, in which case you might want to checkout "Fallen Jerusalem", instead. We were adamant about going to Anegada. Looking back, I'm not sure it was such a great stop. The positives (for me) were i) the satisfaction of a longer sail, ii) driving a Moke and iii) the delicious Roti at "Flash of Beauty" (best I ever ate). However, the island itself is not that interesting (just beaches). There's not very much to see there and it's the only place where we were kept awake at night by loud nightclubs at the anchorage. We went for 8 nights and if I were to do it all again I might prefer to stay longer in Virgin Gorda Sound and explore the interior of that island by hiking, rather than go up to Anegada. Other places we loved: It was a new experience for us to moor and snorkel unsupervised at South Bay Great Dog. It was just for a couple of hrs, but it really highlighted the independence you can get when you bareboat. We really enjoyed anchoring at Little Jost Van Dyke because of the large number of places to explore on foot or by dinghy (eg: Sandy Spit, Sandy Cay, Bubbly Pool). Have a wonderful time. And remember: If you tack the jib having left the forepeak hatch open, you just might break that hatch (!)
@dan66812 жыл бұрын
I would skip Anegada. You will need two nights at the anchorage to get one day on the island. That will leave you with only 4 nights. I would suggest Indians then stay over at Norman (hiking) (1) Baths then Leverick / Saba Rock (provisions) (2). Dogs then stay at Marina Cay/Scrub island (3). Sandy Cay/Spit then Little Jost Anchorage (4). Great Harbor or West End (provisions) (5). Finally Norman or Peter for the last night. That will set you up to get the boat back to Tortola by Noon.

How stressful and tough was it to enter BVI with the current Covid protocols?
@dwfletch2 жыл бұрын
On the way out we flew CLT to SJU to EIS. On the way back we flew EIS to STT to CLT. Therefore, we had to comply with the COVID requirements of Puerto Rico, The BVI, the SVI and the USA (which all have different rules). We were constantly checking and re-checking the requirements of these 4 different authorities to make sure they had not suddenly changed. In fact, the US requirements did become more strict just a few days prior to our return. We were also sure to register with the "portals" established by Puerto Rico and the SVI in order to expedite our processing. I would say the situation is tolerable as long as A] you bookmark the correct websites and check them daily and B] you carry a GENEROUS supply of proctored rapid antigen tests (we used www.emed.com ).

What is the point of "educating the great unwashed" when the locals hate what you are communicating about them to others? Slovenians hate the terms the "Balkans" & the "Eastern Europe" and there is over a 1000 years of history as reasons for that....
@becon14364 жыл бұрын
We had those as regular means of transportation from 60s to mid 90s and it was great. You would not feel any waves as the hydro foil would compensate it and the time it would take from one point to another is simular to a bus a or a train but rather in a straight line and romantic feeling.
