I'm starting to suspect those PCB (or SMD) grievances are just a welcome excuse for the incompetent techs. It is cheap components and doubtful practices (like putting power tubes horizontally(!) under the circuitry (!)) which makes more recent amps more prone to failures - not the use of PCBs or SMDs.
@BlueRidgeAudio36 күн бұрын
Sooo yeah, PCBs could be ok if they were well designed and well implemented, but mostly they aren’t. Most early PCB amps are already in the landfill. That’s somehow my incompetence? You’ve got some flaws in your logic there bud.

I would have placed the fx loop before the master volume.
@BlueRidgeAudio32 ай бұрын
What do you think would be better in that configuration?
@BigTrouble3242 ай бұрын
@@BlueRidgeAudio3 You get a constant and strong line level, instead of the level following the master volume. The way it's set up now, you have to readjust your efx levels each time you move the master volume. And, if the master is set at "bedroom level" you will get very low signal in the loop.
@BlueRidgeAudio32 ай бұрын
@@BigTrouble324 yup! I'm just sharing how the D man did it in this vid. I offer a built in tube buffer on my amps, for the same reasons.

Guy at 2:48 plays guitars for ( Dream Guitars in Asheville?) They have a real Dumble,,,.......n yours is def on par, different,...... but on par...
@robvoyles2 ай бұрын
Every amp is based off a fender design. The amps have never made anyone famous, the players made the amps famous. Thats the difference, there is no magic amp. only magical wonderful players. If you think you can buy a dumble, boogie, Marshall plexi, etc... and you will become this greater player the second you plug in, you will be disappointed. Save your money for a good amp, there are many out there and your main focus should be becoming a better player. thats where the magic is.

@theBejourn You can tell the amp is amazingly loud from a KZbin video?!?
@theBejourn7 ай бұрын
@@EnJoony yes, first he says as much within the first few minutes and as soon as he starts playing the tone just sounds intense, full, and LOUD. If you were recording that through say a modeler it would sound different and likely not be as loud.
@EnJoony7 ай бұрын
@theBejourn ?!? He says it's not much quieter than the 50 watt version - Nothing about the volume he's playing it at. You gotta' have one supersonic set of ears to discern how loud that amp is in the video.

So you're claiming your prototype, which isn't even a finished product yet, is a Deluxe Reverb killer? Absolutely hilarious. Let me know when you succeed in dethroning arguably the most popular amp of all time. Until then, maybe cut the clickbait ;)
@BlueRidgeAudio38 ай бұрын
The goal is quality over quantity…quite different from fender’s commercial scale, yes. It’s really a different amp, a feature set for modern players who prefer time based effects on the floor vs. built in reverb, and who would rather support a passionate individual’s work over a corporate giant. If you think the people making the most amps are the people making the best amps, well, I’m wasting my breath.
@jjclem87595 ай бұрын
You goofball, you’re obviously reading the title in bad faith. He’s a damn fine builder, and boutique amps certainly improve on (the average) Deluxe Reverb.. I don’t understand why ppl feel the need to be negative to small builders, it’s not like he’s getting rich off this. It’s obv a labor of love. Anyway, Nick, I’m just across the state line in VA visiting my dad while he’s sick, in the middle of nowhere but just a couple hours from Asheville, and I wonder if I could come down and listen to a Looking Glass in person. I’m in the mkt for an amp in that style and it sounds beautiful but I can’t spend that kinda cash w/out hearing in person first, so I’m gonna shoot you an email and hopefully we can work something out. Cheers!

Just had the junk removed from my 1964, that it had been accumulating over the years. I asked my tech to replace coupling caps and tone caps with Blue SoZos, using silver micas in the treble spots. Also asked him to load in 5881's ... Wow. What a sound improvement!
@BlueRidgeAudio39 ай бұрын
Dielectrics do make a difference, Polyester is "stock" fender AFAIK. metalized Polypropelene is a little more hi fi... I prefer ceramics to silver mica, less microphonic noise and better temp coefficient... but there are a lot of different ceramic types and some don't sound good. "Sounding good" is pretty subjective but things like electrical properties and inner/outer foil construction can be leveraged for somewhat more objective "musical" qualities, even if that's just consistent performance.

Ok, i honestly don't mean to be rude. Im not a professional. But i think I have a decent ear. Best way i could explain is. Could be a problem with the speaker. You know when you hear s cheap acoustic guitar. That's what im hearing. To tinny. Not enough color in the sound. Just being honest. Maybe i shouldn't be commenting because i couldn't build an amp. That's my two cents.👍

Not trying to endorse that company, used to be made in america (when the guitar was made) but then they switched to prison labor and sweat shops... I'll give you a hint, the brand rhymes with "sleazy"
