I like the idea of the leaves being by different printers. Very cool! Did you say that you originally divided up the Kelmscott Chaucer that you got in 2012? How did you decide to not sell it as a whole and rather to sell leaves? I'm sure that is a controversial question to even ask but I'd love to hear.

Please keep making these videos! I'm just now getting into collecting old dictionaries, on account of the internet's changing the definitions of words and I can now prove it. I have been binge watching your videos LOL, I'm going to buy the oldest dictionaries I can afford and your videos are helping me out.

Thank you Sir for these lovely little lectures. Here in isolation in midtown Manhattan you are providing a source of unending delight and respite. I haven’t had a tv for over 20 years but my teeny apartment in Murray Hill is filled with over 2,000 books, etc., ...boxed sets of drawings/etchings, and sepia and b&w early photography......my first editions are locked up in my old glass front Cape Dutch cabinet that I’ve schlepped around a few continents, ......also a few monographs, and miniatures..... from a teeny two volume Ariel to Zweig, a little blue Moroccan covered Colette, a beautifully bound and gilded “Millet” from Little Books on Art published by Dodge ......the little ones are stacked up on my great-grandmother’s Bechstein..... (I’m a (was a) self employed music teacher and volunteer at the Juilliard after-school public school program teaching music theory) music manuscripts another passion of mine. Imbecile in the White House blathers on ......

Yeah, great to you again. Can you explain to me, because I’m not familiar with the English terminology on books and profesional book collecting business, but did you combined pages from a different editions of a book to create something of a prostethis of a book? With a missing pages?

Ah, a collector "collects" but rarely sells. I have several antiquarian volumes, nothing of great value, but I still would hate to have to sell any of them: even though I can't pay my mortgage & might lose my home. Appreciation, understanding but no opportunity: story of my life.

My dream is to have a single room dedicated to my collection, all the walls filled to the brim with classical, contemporary, philosophical and fictional works.

By the twelfth century late Carolingian miniscule was transitioning to proto-Gothic, which would eventually yield the minim-laden, dense Gothic hands characteristic of the late middle ages. Carolingian miniscule dominated from the ninth, through the eleventh centuries, except in England, where insular hands remained strong until the late ninth/early tenth century (though English handwriting continued to retain much of its local character).

Hello, just found your channel and I'm hooked! :) Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I wanted to know, if I may, where can I learn about the types of vellum available? which is the highest quality one? how do you measure the quality of vellum? and even more broadly, what is the most durable and highest quality type of paper available? (i.e. vellum, regular wood paper, etc. -- what are the differences between them) Thanks! :)

Awesome video, I really enjoyed watching it. It's interesting to look at these historic pieces, and get the context for how and why they were made, compared to books today. Not to mention, they're works of art in of themselves!

Very interesting; thank you. I have a special interest in 11th-12th century France. Would the Carolingian script that you mention became universal, have dominated educated and liturgical writing in France by that period?
