My whole family loves this movie, as do my best friends. Among their children are two Seans and one Mary Kate. My father has the original movie poster, which we gave him as a gift. And, we have been to Cong.

A historic time in American history, a positive time. This was also a historic movie in Irish history. The best of the best; a time when innocence could still be found in children and modesty in women wasn’t so rare.

I don't understand why they didn't rename Cong to Innisfree.

Yes it is a lovely film, I used to watch it on actual film. People only became Quiet Man mad after the film was released on home video. There were no Quiet Man shops etc. in Cong when I used to visit there - the commercialization now is sickening and they should be ashamed. The only souvenir I could find worth taking home was one of the iron windows from the cottage used, which I still have.

Ireland sold it's soul for the Euro! Good luck with that!!
@gaelicd83284 жыл бұрын
paul broderick Ireland sold nothing your talking out your ass. Only for the EU we would still be stuck with trading and being under the cosh of the British. Evidence of that is the debacle of the Tory government to rail road over everything we hold dear.. Get a life man all your doing is making a fool out of your mouth

@@gaelicd8328 I was born I Dublin , Ireland for your information. Ireland a willing 'victim' taking in hordes of undesirables from here there and everywhere as part of the deal: extortion if you will. Have a Guinness on me!

Modern Ireland has sadly sold its soul in many referendum in recent years. The land of saints and scholars is tainted now. But her valour will return again, I’ve no doubt.

I just saw this. "The Quiet Man" is my favorite movie!! But then my favorite Stars are in this movie!! They are all gone now but not forgotten by me. The first time I saw this movie was on the "Late Show" when I was about 18 years old. I've loved it ever since then & watch it every time it's shown!! Thank you.

I have to agree this is also my favourite movie, and boy was John Wayne in some great flicks. I don’t have the time to watch movies anymore, but still love short clips of this classic. How life was in Ireland has sadly changed these past decades. Innocent and modesty is rare nowadays.

Laurence Le Beu St Clair Laurence yes it is. Try Netflix or even KZbin but I have a copy myself. I was lucky enough to have worked in her home here in Ireland for some weeks. That’s going back to the late 70s a beautiful lady in every way..

@angermang I love the Field, its a great film, kind of the flipside of Quiet Man. I am connected to Ireland in that its the land of my father etc, and i've lived and worked there and wish i could continue to do so but for its collapse. Its still a beautiful country, but to me it seems more like a beautiful corpse- everything beautiful seems to be dying over there, they've traded one colonial master for another, and the people themselves don't seem to care...

@Mazdak1 Every one is entitled to there opinion i supposed. But i have to disagree with you when you say that Ireland wasnt the same as they portrayed in the film. Because it was exactly like they portrayed back 1950's rural ireland. And if you want an earlier perception of rural Ireland John.B.Keane's "The Field" is a perfect example. But i would agree with you that now a days Ireland is gone very Americanised But not back 1950's and earlier. One question are you Irish or connectedtoIreland.
@Mazdak113 жыл бұрын
@angermang The ireland portrayed in this film, albiet this ireland didn't really exist persay, but old Ireland and everything it embodied are essentially dead in the desparate quest to become "european" and modern, and the young crowd has no respect for anything except whats in America or the UK. Ireland looks more like New york City or some other cesspool every day, spiritually, morally, culturally, etc. Its become a dead thing.
@colinchick6913 жыл бұрын
The Quiet Man was the only color movie Republic Pictures ever made, also the only film they made outside the US. Ford, himself was a proud Irish-American.
