It's too bad it's closed indefinitely. Though if they were to reopen the system, they need to fully convert it to full automation. If #Thales (Ground Transportation including CBTC and AFC now part of #HitachiRail) was able to modernize unique systems such as the Morgantown PRT, I'm sure there should be a company able to fully modernize the system to use a GoA4 UTO system.

This is the best trolley line in Canada by far. I just wish ETS and ERRS shared the line so that both Summer heritage service and regular every-day low-floor trams could serve the line that links Edmonton's two Main Streets (Jasper and Whyte) together much like London's City & Waterloo does!
@subwaymark6 күн бұрын
It would be a great transit line, mixing the heritage trams with the modern trams.

This route seems like it could actually be useful as a proper train
@stickynorth6 күн бұрын
Yes! My thoughts exactly! It should be jointly run between ETS and ERRS, with ETS being responsible for everything except the heritage trolley fleet which could share the line during the tourist season as you see in other cities around the world including in the USA! It's too important to only be operated part of the year...

As much as I love the streetcar, I feel like they should reconstruct the High Level bridge to connect to Government Centre and have a proper train station above it, possibly even incorporate new streetcar tracks. if they want to make it like an actual transit line like the F Market & Wharves Line and Silver Line in San Francisco and San Diego respectively.
@subwaymark10 күн бұрын
If they had more volunteers they would run 7-days a week. If they added 1 or two more passing sidings, and 2 more streetcars, it could be a transit service. Based on what I saw on a weekend, they almost are already.

@OwlGreeneАй бұрын
I absolutely adore the level boarding at this station. I'm from Baltimore and it pisses me off that because the doors fold outward level boarding is almost impossible unless they have the trains stop at very very perfected locations where platform extenders could extend once the train were completely stopped and the doors were deployed.

Baltimore needs to move to low floor trains like Minneapolis, Portland, and others.

To see one full on film in the 20s, I'd siggest "It". About the 3rd scene shows all the shop girls and blue collar workers scrambling up and down, in and out of a double decker in NYC. This while the wealthy are in their own automobiles and the executives are hailing cabs. Mass transit has nostalgia...but it was much dirtier and crowded than we imagine

Most passengers want to ride upstairs at the museum. The upstairs could be 100% full, and downstairs 20% full. The car runs fine at the museum, although we keep our mainline top speed to about 15 mph and out tightest curve is less than 10mph. Now if the right-of-way it not properly leveled/ballasted, it can be a bit seasicking ride up top.

Thank You. My guess it probably what we experience at the museum. Most people want to sit upstairs for the view.. I try to tell our passengers "upstairs for the view, downstairs for the comfort" My guess is that Blackpool had a similar idea to encourage folks to sit downstairs. Folks going upstairs are not goign up their for the comfort, but the view.

48 has an interesting history, when it was built in 1927, it used parts from another car, but was built as a double decker with a roof, however the end vestibules were open and were not enclosed until the late 1930s.
