Before construction of barrage, there were locks ( iron shees) to Store the water in upstream side required for irrigation.People used Railway brigade to cross river. During summer season , Locks were used on upstream side and people used to cross the river by walk to and fro to Vijayawada.

I lived in Vijayawada. I studied at SRR & CVR Government College, Machavaram, Vijayawada. My age is 73 years. I knew that the Krishna River bund was constructed with PORTLAND CEMENT. It was never damaged. The British Empire ordered Sir Arthur Cotton to pay only 3 dammidi to the labourers, but , he gave 3 canis to the labourers while construction of bunds all rivers in India. Sir Arthur Cotton praposal is to connect all the rivers from Brahma Putra to Pennar to make INDIA a great cultivation country in the world. The British Rulers grose angry on Sir Arthur Cotton called him back to LONDON and hanged him to death. Sir Arthur Cotton died for the cause of INDIA. The Indian Government tried to destroy the bund on The Krishna River, but failed, it is so strong. Even now, we can see the undistroyed bund on Krishna River. Touching the bund, the Prakasam Barriage was constructed by the great irrigation Engineer, Visvesvarayya. Political scenarios have critical content. Sri Prakasam Pantulu Government threw out within a period of 6 months only.

Prakasham Garu only ruled one year as cm ..but devlopment for 50 years ..like praksam barrage , Svu university,karnool capital and cancelled farmers tax of anatapur ...so many development of Andhrapradesh..if he rules 5 years Andhrapradesh will be No 1 india ..final days ..he donated his wealth to poor people and depends on govt pinctuon 250 rupees how sad ended his life ..very good humanbeing with humanity
