6:43 conc of repeat unit is equal to conc of 1 of the monomer ? Why What if the conc of boh monomers weren't same / equal? Then what would be the conc of repeat unit ? Average of the both? Kindly explain, Sir
@PolymerWorld
@PolymerWorld 12 күн бұрын
Repeat units are the smallest segments of a polymer that can undergo polymerization independently. These molecules contain two distinct functional groups capable of reacting with each other. When two monomer units are present in equal concentrations, they theoretically react in a 1:1 ratio to form an equivalent number of repeat units. However, if the concentration of one monomer is lower than the other, the number of repeat units formed will be limited by the concentration of the lesser monomer. Once the lower-concentration monomer is fully consumed, any excess of the other monomer will remain unreacted and will not contribute to the polymer structure. Adjusting the relative concentrations of the monomers is a common method for controlling the molecular weight of the resulting polymer.

What is the mean of dH lit?
@PolymerWorld
@PolymerWorld 23 күн бұрын
None of the polymer is 100% crystalline. so dH for 100% crystalline polymer is a theoretical value which is taken from literature.

Only a total moron or someone with PHD could have drawn Contact Angle and created formulas around it. For a circle shape the contact angle is a constant. There is no such thing as a contact angle. It only exists in their heads, because they are lacking brain. And if there is no circle but circular shape, than you need to divide the shape in 4 and the intersect point will be at 1/4. Not sure what that angle does for you, but OK. Drawing that green line going up from the "edge" of the liquid is insanity. Picasso maybe, mathematics not.

The answer of q 19 is incorrect, percent conversion needs to be calculated from the degree of polymerization, which is 0.99.

very informative video, thanks a lot. Just have one question, can you explain the influence of backpressure during the process?
@PolymerWorld
@PolymerWorld Ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Regarding backpressure, it is a very important process parameter since it helps to push material forward leading to better compaction of the melt and also removes voids. Higher backpressure also helps to achieve better shear mixing. This all help to achieve a high quality product. But excess backpressure can also lead to over heating and chain breakage leading to poor mechanical property or defects. So an optimum value of backpressure should be used.

In chain braching , it is lowering the Tg and also increasing it. Can you please clarify this doubt of mine.
@PolymerWorld
@PolymerWorld 2 ай бұрын
If the chain side chain contains big bulky group like phenyl group, side groups or branching restricts the chain movement which leads to higher Tg. If the side group is small like methyl or ethyl side group, chain can easily move compared to bulky side group. In this case Tg will be low. I hope it helps.

Hello. Thank you for the informative video. Can you tell me the general ratio of PVC powder to plasticozer to create “plastisol” for soft vinyl toys such as designer vinyl toys? Around Shore A 65-85. Thank you.
@PolymerWorld

Thanks for watching our videos. The ratio of PVC powder to plasticizer for soft vinyl toys is generally in the range of 100:40 to 100:80 (w/w), depending on the specific requirements for softness and flexibility.

Hi dear For production color masterbatch which is better single screw or twin screw?
@PolymerWorld

Both types of extruders have their strengths and limitations. Twin screw extruder is generally preferred for color masterbatch production due to its excellent mixing efficiency as it gives better dispersion compared to single screw extruder.
