James Cameron's commentary; Molly Brown's Rowing School...: This scene was taken out, was following Molly and quartermaster Hitchens in boat 6 as they;ve just been launched and just rowing away from the ship and shows Molly taking charge of the process, taking charge of the lifeboat if you will. That's actually Frederick Fleet rowing, the lookout who failed to spot the Iceberg in time. So she basically organized and showed everybody how to row.

How was it at the height of the storm? The vastness of the ocean is beyond comprehension. It could gobble up even the QM2 in a heartbeat if conditions were right.
@titanic7grl3 жыл бұрын
It was pretty intense with the pitching but QM2 handled it like a dream 😌 the height of it was during the night while we were all sleeping though

She's like driving a Cadillac over the same piece of road you just took a Chevy over. Are those spare prop blades on the foredeck there??? Do they get thrown very often? What a trip to be in command of a city at sea.

Yep, those are the spare propellor blades! Also called the Commodore’s Cufflinks

a beautiful set of Smith Hyson 3-bell “Super-whistles”, the same type used on a bunch of the great old liners. :)
@thunda79283 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. That's a Kahlenberg "Triple-chime" air/steam whistle. The biggest chime on that whistle is a 10", while the Smith Hyson Super Whistles were half again as big in diameter, and much, much louder. The American Queen originally had a whistle off an older steamer, but when originally installed they found that the steam line they'd run up for it was too small to actually get a decent sound out of it. They run the current Kahlenburg whistle off that original steam line, but supplement with compressed air as well. If you compare the steam plume from the whistle here with another steamer's whistle (like the old Delta Queen) there's a pretty evident difference.

@@thunda7928 Unfortunately there are a lot of whistle "experts" running around that know nothing about them. They wouldn't know a 3" Buckeye 3 chime from a Hancock 3 chime like was used on the Big Boy locomotives. A lot of these people get their information (whether first or second source, I don't know) from one post on Encyclopedia Titanica, and think they know everything.

That looks like the three bell whistle made by Kahlenberg. Unfortunately, it is not blown with as much pressure and volume as it should. It sounds really weak compared to what it should sound on at least #150 - #200 lbs. steam with a 3" valve. At least they tried. That whistle is not cheap, but neither is a trip on the boat.
@titanic7grl6 жыл бұрын
whatdoidonext I agree! She was just back in Pittsburgh and the whistle sounded much weaker than what I had remembered.
