Had a 02 vtx1800R, i called it the purple monster. Unfortunately i sold that bike thinking i wanted a Valkyrie. I regret selling that bike to this day. I found a black vtx1800 for 1800 up in Minnesota. I put a transforce 195 75 16 darkside on it and I love it.

I have had many Hondas, including an 1100 wing and also a Blackbird. Very nearly got a 97 Valkery and not getting it was a mistake. More recently got an Indian Scout and Chief Vintage. Both the Indians were the biggest motorcycle mistakes ever. Lots of serious recalls of a reliability and major safety issues, very unreliable, Chief Vintage extremely underpowered and bad handling. The Valkery had it all, Indian like styling, power, torque, performance, handling, smooth, great sound and on top of it all reliable.

Hey there. Fellow Darksider here as well, great video. I've debated getting this bike for a few years, almost got the 2018 model, i really don't like the look of the new gen 2 model. Question: how's the reliability with it and what have you experienced any leaks? From what I've heard they have issues with a gasket every 15k miles or so. Please let me know.

fun fact, but not verified. Apparently the first batch of VTX1800 on country roads were attacked by deers. When stopped at a stop light and a deer was around would charge the bike and rider. Apparently the harmonics of the engine were driving them nuts. After a few incidents Honda looked into it and they changed the harmonics of the engine.

I had 2 of them, and absolutely loved them. My greatest regret in life was selling the last one I had.....heart tears. I thought that tire was a car tire.

To anyone attempting this you don't need the hole saw. cut away the welds on the sleeves, remove them and them separate the baffle with a chisel and hammer then heat the baffles from the other end of the exhaust and they pop right out
@NicePantsLance28 күн бұрын
You're not wrong, but let me leave an explanation for those interested. There are 2 styles of stock exhaust for this motorcycle. The easier of the 2 has the welds exposed, so you can do exactly as you described to remove the baffles. The more difficult of the 2 stock exhausts has welds that cannot be reached. You can certainly drill out the hidden welds and use the method you described, but it leaves 2 holes in the side of your exhaust. The holesaw method is crude, but it allows removal the baffles without drilling a hole through the sides and/or causing damage to the outside with chisels or heat. There are a few debaffling videos on youtube for this bike, but all of them show the easier style of exhaust. This is one of the only videos debaffling the more difficult style of exhaust. If you have an early model 535, you most likely have the better style of exhaust that can be debaffled with a chisel 👍
@bassmanbrady27 күн бұрын
On my exhaust our welds weren't visible either and we certainly didn't want to drill into the exterior of the pipes either. One thing I should have pointed out is that we removed the exhausts before attempting to remove the baffles. This gave us a lot more freedom to "attack" the baffles. Doing them whilst fitted and with only one pair of hands will require a more creative approach and some power tools. Ultimately though, we all get the baffles out finally. How has the bike been performing since?

Ran Riken Raptor darkside on an '06 Rocket. Hated it for 30k miles. Great mileage for the price, handled like crap on uneven pavement, always felt like I was leaning left on crowned roads. Had to cut the tire off just like you did. Won't go there on my '13 Rocket Roadster.

I've owned the 535 and 750 (2nd gen). I've also rode the 1100 and 250. In my opinion 535 is the best virago. sweet spot in both weight and power. maintenance of the 535 (especially carb work) is way easier than in those cursed 750s and 1100s, even if they are bit comfier, especially on long rides and on the highway. 250 is probably the best one to build something out of since it's even lighter still, single carbed and bit more powerful than the 125.> the ones to skip are 125 and 750, since 250 beats the 125 in every regard, as does 1100 beat the 750, unless you want the early 80s 1st gen one, but even then you can get the 920/1000.
