@@TheDuckDiaries ok awesome, im going to subscribe so i can hopefully get to that video. We had ducks for years, i LOVED them. We’ve only ever had little pools for them though… like everywhere… pools everywhere lol. It was such a pain. I want to get ducks again but i really want to figure out how to do what you did… one big pool that stays put… somehow clean the water without emptying it everyday. I know there’s plants you can put in the water to help with that also, but im thinking a big filter of some kind. But does yours get filled up with gunk? Do you have to clean your filter? Im very interested how you did this… thanks in advance!!

I had a male that would constantly attack legs. I put my hand around bill and just held the bill closed. Didn't need much pressure and after 3 or 4 times, the duck would still charge now and then but the attacking of legs stopped. Seems the duck just needed to know who was in charge. Lol

I recently come in to possession of a male and female duck that my rescue cats brought to the house. And this male duck is suddenly turned just as aggressive and I've been thinking the same things you were talking about. Thank you for helping me understand that that's most likely the best way to do it and just be consistent with it. Thank you again have a blessed day!

I made him a wheel chair ..he only walks backwards or to the side..he is smaller and not growing as fast as the other..I got them a month ago and I'm not sure what to do..internet is not much help either..

Hi there! Im sorry to hear that about your duck! Have you tried researching wry neck or swayback? We are no duck experts and haven't experienced this ourselves, but from what you've described those two would be my best guesses. Disclaimer - The diaper was removed very quickly after this video and Squirty poo was not at all harmed. Squirt was a rescue duckling who we took in unexpectedly so we didn't have any friends for him, and we couldn't find anywhere else to rehome him. Get them a larger pool if you're able to!! My ducks do those "water zoomies" too except what they do is they dive right under the water and glide along the bottom of the pool. Your ducks are wanting to have a bigger pond so they can actually swim!!! They're a joy to watch and they do love their big pool 😁
@TheDuckDiaries3 ай бұрын
We have 2 of these shells. But that is absolutely the plan! How do you filter your pond? 😊
@pineapple-pop99363 ай бұрын
@@TheDuckDiaries Ohh perfect, they absolutely love it!! So my family and I have a 1.6k litre pool, you know one of the ones you can buy for the summer for your garden! Right now we have two ducks, needing to get a few more which we'll hopefully have in a month or two. Usually we will just empty our pool using a DIY syphon, so basically just a bit of hose pipe that we can kinda wriggle around on the bottom of the pool to suck up all the grim stuff the ducks have dragged in as well as their poop!! We also use the pools draining system too with the little plug on the side but if you do get one of those kind just think about where the drain is because we to stick our arm in right to the bottom and unplug it. It's about 60cm in height. When we drain it, we use gutters to carry the water to the bottom of our garden where we have a bunch of fruit trees that absolutely love the ducks poop water lol, we do this so that it doesn't flood where the pool is. My mum is planning on making a better draining system in our pool! We were going to purchase a proper filter but thought it'd get blocked with all the ducks dirt so we have decided against it unless we find one specifically for them. Right now we empty it once a week, perhaps more when it's hot as the pool gets even more green on hot days! My mum built a ramp for them to get in and out as its high off the ground. They also will need a little place to stand in the water as they're way out of their depth, I believe they can drown if not 😬 If I remember and you'd want me to I can update this comment when we've sorted our pool out a bit more. The bigger pools are a faff but the ducks adore it and spend most of their day floating around. It's also better if you have a drake as when they mate the female won't hit the bottom of the pool, just make sure the boy isn't too rough or a lot bigger than your girls because he'll squash them under. I'm sure you already know but there's no harm in mentioning it. We have one boy and one girl, I know that ratio is not recommended at all, we watch the girl very closely to make sure she's not showing signs of over mounting. It's probably not the best but they are separate at night as she is quite a big lady and he is very frisky 😳 He's I think 1.6kg-2kg and she's 3.6kg so they have a big size difference. Just a note, we didn't originally plan for ducks and would've got more girls but these guys were very spur of the moment rescues from a lady (she had 3 very very young kids) who had them forced on her when they were ducklings. Literally my mum told me about them the second I left college, a few hours later we had 2 ducklings in our living room. We were able to take them as I know a bunch about ducks because of a certain situation a few months ago and my mum has already had ducks in the past. Our female we found out had a respiratory infection of which she'd have died from if we hadn't taken her to the vets, we took her literally a day or two after rescuing them. She had the infection prior to our care ☹️ But she is healthy now!! She got over it very well after given some medicines. Our male is kind to her, she is happy as she is, there'll be more girls in the future after we sort their permanent coop out! We're watching them very closely and don't think it's a good idea to rehome the drake because they have formed such a good bond and have been together through thick and thin 🙂 It's not an ideal situation but it's what we could do for them. I think she'd have died if she stayed with that poor lady much longer because she didn't seem to notice or know much about the care they needed, plus she already had her hands full. There was another person going to look at them the next day but we snatched them up ASAP because we weren't sure that person was actually able to have them and look after them properly and the poor duckys didn't look very well. Anyways sorry for the huge text wall lol, lmk if you have any more questions 😊 One last question what breed of ducks do you have? The white ones look like pekin x runner ducks and the black and white is perhaps a magpie or cayuga? I'm not very knowledgeable on a lot of duck breeds, only a few! Our girl is a Pekin and our boy is some sort of runner cross rhouen or something like that!

@@pineapple-pop9936 Wow that’s a big pond. We had a bigger pond for them we dug out and used pond liner, but we went through 2 pumps so went back to shells. That’s really kind of you rescuing those ducks, love to hear stories like that! We have 5 girls, Billy (pekin x Rouen), Milly (Indian runner x unsure), CeCe (Cayuga), Baby & Cody are both Cayuga x either Rouen or pekin and then we have 2 boys Squirt and Donny who are both Indian runners. We don’t have the perfect ratio either, ideally we would have more girls but don’t have the space at the moment. Thanks for your comment 😊

@@TheDuckDiaries I can't imagine having 5 ducks with a filter on a pond 🤣 goodness me! Our method is a bit of a hastle but it works for us, it does take a while to do but our ducks absolutely love it and they get quite upset quacking around when they don't have their pond!! Our male jumps in it and he's very displeased to find it empty 🤣 We actually have another male, one from my mums work who's a khaki Campbell, he had to have his thingy removed as it became necrotic, her work can't look after him so he's with us right now. We can't keep him because of our location and space available, he doesn't stay with our ducks but he definitely needs a forever home 😢 my mums work management are a bit useless with their ducks so we're not really sure what's happening! I do hope you're able to find a good pond and method of cleaning it, it's a nightmare sometimes lol
