I was surprised how little traffic there was on the road for most of the trip. Still took awhile. I don't think I will be seeing too many trains after this train. Rain is in the forecast and I have other things to do.

If you manage to pass through Philly and have some time, the 30th Street Station parking deck has some views into Amtrak’s Race Street Yard where most of the Aveilas are parked and the Keystone Corridor.

Looks kind of like the VRE trains on the other side of DC, actually. I thought they had some electric locomotives?

@@DavidUyThey actually do. They have the HHP-8. That's electric. But they have mostly diesel trains. They also used to have the AEM-7 but they retired that one.

@@DavidUy MARC runs Chargers, GP39s and MP36PH-3C for diesel and HHP-8s for the Penn Line which uses the NEC right of way from DC-Perryville. The HHP-8s are not as easy to catch since they’re retiring them plus Amtrak charges them a lot to use the catenary.

Okay, also try to catch some NJT (New Jersey Transit), SEPTA (South East Pennsylvania Transit Authority) Regional Rail, or MARC (Maryland Area Rail Commuter) trains in the Northeast Corridor (if you’re going towards north)

I'm currently onboard, so can give a semi real-time update- issues in Columbia, SC were due to a coach car having a small electrical fire, resulting in the crew having to cut power to the entire consist. Everytime they'd try and give power to the cars, the coach car wiring would spark up. They pulled us north of Columbia to a siding to remove the coach and put it at th back (hence why it looks like an extra car trailing), so they could provide power again. All in all, about 3-4 hours without power. Then had engine issues in Hamlet due to PTC, resulting in a further delay.

The crew was mentioning that the Amfleet II's specifically have become very problematic lately, and that this car will probably be taken back to Miami on a return Floridian 41 train because the yards up in Chicago won't work on them, that only Miami or New York will touch them now.

Major delay in Columbia, SC today due to equipment problems. The train looked relatively complete when it went by here, though.

I think there are 4 or 5 of them. The Amtrak engines 33 and 38 seem to be missing at the moment, or I'm not watching the right trains.

@ what radio frequency do you use at royal for the piedmots cause I can’t catch them on the radio there but I can at the Cary Station

Royal street is tricky. They use 160.905MHz when they leave Raleigh Station and call the Boylan signal. They switch to 161.100 right after that. They don't talk again until they round the curve and call the Waffle House signals unless they need to get permission to go through the Fairgrounds work zone. My scanner with the stock antenna rarely picked up the call to depart Raleigh station.

The ALC42's and all the Siemens chargers are HORRIBLE in the cold and winter snow. Something to do with the intakes getting clogged up with melted snow or water.

@ yeah technically CSX and NS share the joint. NS Roanoke Yard is only allowing UP and CSX come to us as far as foreign power goes. So whether it’d be CN BNSF CP etc. then it’s going to be swapped at Roanoke for standard horsehead due to trespassers around the triangle.
