Dunno how the algorithm works but I enjoy looking at the Enquirer with you. Just fyi I think the issue was saved for the Lady Diana photos and stories. Image of her would fetch $500,000-$1 million dollars and you’re still interested in l them. Just my 2 cents from a lady a few years younger than Diana Spencer

Glad the algorithm brought you here! It does make sense that this issue would be saved specifically for the Diana connection.

When people pass away, the ones cleaning up donate some, keep some, sell some... It was likely a belonging of someone that passed and their relative was keen enough to recognize it as 'not trash'. I am surprised the store put it up for sale in a brick and mortar though. That seems a better fit for their online auctions. I had that exact copy in my possession at some point. My uncle read those when I was little and I would buy one every now and then as an adult, until the price became beyond unexpected.

I've never come tabloids in person at a thrift store beyond this one time - I agree, makes more more sense for an online auction site. I can't believe it is in such good condition considering all it went through to get to me!

7:32 I think the Clinque pens where eyeliners, not uncommon at all with a pop of color around the eyes, the 80s makeup lingered for a while into the 90s, but eventually went away ☺️ I'm not entirely sure tho, but the blue in particular screams eyeliner to me

Cole, Happy Holidays! Another great flip-through. Loved it. And thank you for doing more Christmas editions! I love the candles though I must say, that much open flame near the dried trees, branches, fruits, garland and popurri is combustion waiting to happen. Anxiety inducing for me, and yet, at the same time, quite a seed for suspense. My sick fantasy? That as you are flipping through the pages of the beautiful decor, bit by bit the flame of an errant candle in the pages is shown igniting the drapes in the background. No one gets hurt. It’s just pages in a magazine. But seeing your reaction to the absurdity of it would have me laughing uncontrollably. Merry Christmas, Cole! Keep up the good work. More holiday mags please!

Yeah, potpourri was very big back then. In the 21st century we moved to room spray and diffuser sticks, didn't we? The chicest potpourri in the 1990s that everyone in New York had was the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. I was crazy for that scent. That Gucci watch was very popular and not well regarded by watch snobs. It was considered sort of cheap looking. A lot of people had it, though. Not sure why a high end magazine would want to promote pressed class compote dishes. The cut glass ones are so much nicer. I collect them. They're very cheap at thrift stores. No one wants them. Yes, I think Paulina became the face of Estee Lauder after Willow Bay left. So, there's nothing particularly 90s about this issue. I think they're holding on to an 80s ethos and I can't imagine the 90s and 2000s suited them much. 90s minimalism was not a good match for this title.
@ColeChickering12 күн бұрын
What did the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella smell like?? PS: Thanks for confirming on Paulina ;)

@@ColeChickering Hmmm...difficult to describe it. It's very complex. Maybe grass, berries and something very rich in the oriental scent category. You can buy it online now. Back then, I had to ask everyone to bring it back for me when they went to Italy. I actually have some in their terra cotta pot. I have no idea how old it is. I recommend you treat yourself to it.
@nycp196913 күн бұрын
Those ecru cotton seat covers were everywhere back then. I believe it was Philippe Starck who started it, but I could be wrong. I don't think the cuffs at 14:50 are long enough to form a bishop sleeve. I think it's just a dolman sleeve. It's a pretty dress without the collar, which I think is called a bertha. She would 100% have worn pantyhose with this. Definitely nude because the bertha is white, but possible black sheer if the bertha wasn't there. (Definitely white if it had been the early 80s.) I don't think a late 80s woman would have worn anything but a very pointed toe very high heel shoe with this dress. I worked in a department store in 1988-89 and we sold a lot of dresses like this. It was the basic silhouette of the time. Sort of a softened, often more graceful version of the hard, angular bright color mid 80s look. Still just as voluminous, as you can see. I'm only vaguely aware of this magazine. It's not my taste at all, and I can't imagine looking at all this stuff from cover to cover, and I'm not exactly a minimalist. This is too much clutter for me.
@ColeChickering13 күн бұрын
It’s very cluttery maximalist! But I think that’s what I like about it - also not my style, but such an over the top, fully realized aesthetic, I can’t help but admire the commitment.
