Meeting the needs of our two completely different kids is why decided to homeschool back in 2022. I’m so glad we didn’t continue with public education because homeschooling has allowed both to thrive.

My 6 year old son has absolutely hated writing, coloring, drawing, and anything art that wasn’t Lego or PlayDough until just recently. Reading, math, science, etc he’s flying through! I related to this video so much, thank you! I am also trying to be more mindful about finding unique creative ways to incorporate more coloring, drawing, cutting into our weeks.

LOVE THIS CURRICULUM!!! We have already filled in a few gaps with my kindergarten/ first grader. He was going to be held back for math but now I can keep moving him along as we were doing the program through the summer. It’s such an amazing feeling to see your child finally click! ❤

I love my neighborhood Buy Nothing Group for “special”toys. They’re often things we would never buy ourselves because the kiddo would get bored easily, but putting it out for half an hour once a week while I’m cooking or cleaning? Suddenly the most fun ever.

What type of skills does the child need to have to start the program?
@AutumnRene4 ай бұрын
There is a placement test on the All About Reading website to see which level your child is ready for! I would recommend being very solid with all letter sounds and that your child is showing signs of reading readiness (such as an interest in learning to read and starting to try to sound things out) before starting the program.

Looking forward to your videos about what curriculum you use! I’m highly considering homeschooling my 6 year old son. He has ADHD and the public school system may not work out for him. The thought of homeschooling is scary though. If I had a good curriculum and could follow that I think it would be so much better for him.

Yes! Homeschooling can feel like a huge leap - especially if you don't have any prior experience. I will have another video coming out this week about what curriculum we used this passed year! I hope it is helpful for you :)

If you just straight out adopt through foster care, do you get to meet and get to know the kids first? Thank you for the video!
@savannahcarlon70337 ай бұрын
That's often why people like to do this. Fostering gives the option to try before you buy and dump them if they aren't what you want.
@KatTheo4319 ай бұрын
I'm a former foster youth who aged out - and I was in at least 5 placements who were likely wanting to adopt and disrupted the placement once they found out that I didn't want to be adopted and still was maintaining a relationship with my disabled mom despite her parental rights being terminated. Reunification is not always possible. My mom couldn't care for herself. My dad was deceased. Moving me to my dad's family out of state meant moving me away from where my mom was, so I didn't want to do that. I really think there needs to be separation between adoption and fostering since this really messed up my life. Foster parents get next to no information before accepting a placement and assumed I would be potentially adoptable since parental rights were terminated but they never were told the whole situation, I was moved and they figured out they didn't want to adopt me and I got moved again. This resulted in me changing schools 5 times. I would end foster to adopt if it was up to me. There's too many foster parents trying to cherry pick kids with less issues and end up messing up the lives of the kids who they don't want to adopt by disrupting the placement.

Does it matter if you have debt? I want to foster but I have some debt as well. I make enough to afford my apartment and have good credit. But I’m wondering if they will take have debt into account.

Hi Autumn! I don't know if you'll see this comment since it has been a few years since you posted, but I was wondering if you could talk about dating while being a foster mom. I know that's personal so no worries if not. It's just the biggest kickback I get from people--that I'll make it enormously difficult to get married if I start fostering while single. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I feel like your video was sent to me by angels🥺 I am 23, single, and i nanny part time & run a business. I have had a heart for children since i was 16 and always knew i wanted to be a foster parent. You made it feel like it’s possible for me. I’m working on moving out of my parents by the end of this year. And hopefully another year after i’ll be ready to bring a beautiful foster baby home🤍 My main concern is finances though and figuring out how much extra i need to have saved to make sure everything is covered.

I hope you donate all the money you are making from this channel back to Culturally Fluent Families or Transracial Adoption Perspectives. The content is good, but you really need to give credit where credit is due. Be sure to point to the people and organizations who actually ARE experts on these topics.

This channel is not monitized. It is just a hobby channel that I began to share my journey and (hopefully) inspire others to help with the foster care crisis. The content in this video was information I have gathered from my degree in child development, my work experience and training with foster children, and foster families I know personally.
