At no stage did anyone give us training for buccal administration .I have non - convulsive status .I don't lose consciousness but my awareness is v impaired. My husband felt as if he was ' forcing medication into my cheek - mine was a syringe .We weren't able to drip it ,the liquid shot out & pooled in my mouth ,resulting in me swallowing the most VILE liquid I've ever tasted

Does buccall and sublingual administration pass first pass metabolism of the liver just like intranasal administration?
@aaronwilliams7205 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing so because buprenorphine can be administered both ways so therefore it passes the blood brain Barrier

could we maybe learn to pronounce the word ‘buccal’ first? it’s BYOO-KUL, not BUCKLE. also, i’m struggling not to laugh at the two caregivers carefully combing over documentation while the one is holding this seizing patient by the head...

OMFG, IKR?? WTH? It's contagious! I've seen several sources pronounce it 'buckle'. Have we just decided to change it?

Nope thery are just saying it wrong its always been buccal because of the part oof the mouth that absorbes it. Its pronounced BUC CAL

Are you using one one of those wobble chairs? to simulate the seizure.

What happens if the midazolam is out of date and that's all you have?
@SA778887 жыл бұрын
I guess youd use your common sense and weigh up the risk factors of ussing out of date meds compared with someone having a potentially life threatening seizure. Not sure Im right.......but my common sense would tell me to use the meds so long as its not REALLY out of date????
@rini70156 жыл бұрын
Just leave the person be and make sure all hazards are out of the way (to prevent injury to the person having the seizure). Contact EMS and follow their instructions. Do not attempt to administer Midazolam if it's out of date, the potency of the drug has been decreased past the expiry.

I'd rather use a syringe.

What if someone didn't know how long the epileptic's seizure time normally is and gave them midazolam at 3 minutes, then they wake up 30 sec to 1 min later? Does that make a difference?
@rebalice98998 жыл бұрын
That is why having a seizure management plan on hand or nearby at all times is so vital. What can save one person, can harm another.

No not usually. If the patient has been prescribed medaz does by their doctor. It maybe the medaz that actaully made them come to. NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL Just my experience

Great video. Must be great drug. I was given it without my consent and have no memory of anything before or after my knee scope. I haven't slept for 3 months. This is a date rape / torture drug.

This is a good, clear and simple video that covered all the things I had worried about including what happen if some of the medication leaks out. Thank you,
