@duolingo what you said about the overscore NOT being sm average directly contradicts another of these video explaining the scoring. It says the overall score is an average of the subscores rounded to nearest 5. It even shows the sum of the 4 scores divided by 4 and yhen rounded.

My first attempt on Duolingo was 2 days ago, before starting the actual test when I lunched the application, and input my details, the next thing I get is " unknown error, please try again later". I tried a few times and still got same error, now I see a warning that this is my last attempt , I would have to pay again to continue. How fair is that?.😢

Duolingo is a scamming piece of shit. I made a virtual Windows and took the test in a fuckin new OS, Windows 11, and they fuckin said I used external device or writing assistance software(And this has happened twice). This beggar of an organization is just trying to scam students who think they got it easier than IELTS with the test taking from home and being cheaper, but this Duolingo English Test is just a front to scam unsuspecting students in the name of their policy. Regardless of clicking on the agreeing to policy, their lack of transparency should give us a really good case if anyone is willing to file it. Fuck these scamming piece of shit bitches, I hope their entire rooster croaks from choking on dicks.

Is it posible to close my eyes all time during the speaking section?

Just passed the test. Apart from the tips mentioned, I have a few more that got my test certified. (1)If you are a person who can write fast and doesn't have to look at the keyboard while writting, you have to pretend. Look at the keyboard and then at the screen every 4-5 words. (2) During the speaking section, close your eyes. I know it makes you speak worse, but in the long run it is worth it so that they certify the test. (3) The test scores aren't that strict in my personal opinion at least. Focus on getting the test certified, this is the biggest challenge of the test. It can be done, I just passed it after following the tips mentioned and the extra ones I wrote. If you can do it, it is worth it as it is less money compared to (for e.x) IELTS. Having an uncertified test for no reason can be very unfair (and common as I have noticed) but focus and it can be done. I got a certified test on my 3rd attempt. Good luck

Duolingo english test is really bad. It didn't show the list to app to close in the beginning. Then I got one invalid test. They refuse to refund. Later, I got two more test all said to be invalid because of eye contact. I'm using my laptop and camera is on the top of laptop. They don't show proof. I don't even know how to change.

looks like the Chat support is not aware of these. I asked them if my setup was okay and showed them my setup. As per my doctor's instruction I use a laptop stand to keep it at eye level along with external keyboard, external mic, external speaker and wireless mouse. I told them I'm not going to switch during the test (quite unrealistic to switch as well). But they kept repeating "Do at your own risk". Can I get a clarification? Even if I stick to my external keyboard, wireless mouse, external speaker and external mic the test can potentially get cancelled? Even after following the rules?

Hello duolingo, My sister scored DET 115 she was about to apply for her studies abroad. Sje didn't know or anyone ever told her that before sending her score she needs to unprivate her DET score. She was really excited to pass all the administra toon test at first but then the result annouced that she failed it. Later she knows that the score must have been unprivate 😢😢😢

IELTS is so comfortable than Duolingo right now about that kind of hard rules such as this hard eye contacting rules .Many people have their eye glasses and not to able long time eye contacting when they think something so it's so tough than any other well known english practice test.

All of these suggestions don't apply to my situation. I have now been denied certification six times without any explanation from Duolingo. If this is what Duolingo's terms allow, doesn't that prove that Duolingo's terms are unfair and one-sided?

Your test will not receive a score. Please disable any third-party software, use a stronger internet connection, and try again and then I tried 2 attempt for free and it is showing error and then 3 time it shows that uploading error...and I have connected my laptop to my home wifi that first time use same wifi...Sir please help me or please refund my money please sir..

I had appeared for the Duolingo English Test on the 11th of August 2024. I'll be very upfront with you regarding my problem. I am from India and am a proficient English speaker. As it is mandated to take an English proficiency test to apply for universities abroad, I chose DET. First thing you should understand is that these tests cost more than the average monthly salary of an Indian. Yes, Duolingo is way cheaper compared to the other exams which was the main reason why I chose DET. One more reason behind my choice was the fast publication of the result. However, since there is no option for taking the test at a designated examination center, we have to use the setup we can afford at home. I have an HP laptop with a webcam and that is all I used to take the test. I understand the rules of the test and your concern that one might be cheating and hence expect us to look at the screen. Unfortunately, my test could not be certified as I was apparently not looking at the screen for an extended period of time. I wanted to appeal that I have been looking at the screen for the entire duration of the test. It's just that the webcam is on top of the screen and hence it might look like I'm looking towards my keyboard. I searched on your FAQ whether people faced the same issue and not to my surprise, many people did. I looked up your article about how to maintain eye contact and realized that at least for the speaking section I should be looking directly at my camera. Instead of creating a fuss over it, I decided to take the test again. This time, I looked at my camera even when I had to read something on my screen, which was troublesome and did affect my exam. I tried to maintain eye contact with my camera, and not my screen during the speaking sections as well. Even after this much effort my test was not certified. There is an article demonstrating how we can appeal our result, but I am not getting the option. I completely understand your concern regarding people resorting to unfair means to take the test. It is very unfortunate that after paying such a huge amount to prove our proficiency (My medium of instruction for my entire education from primary school to my Masters have been in English), and taking the test twice, I do not even get a chance to appeal or take the test again. Duolingo showcases how it is easier and inconvenient since it can be taken from your home but if these are the problems that are to be faced, I would rather show up at an exam center and take the test, even if it means paying more money. I hope you understand that looking at my screen would take my eyes off the webcam and that it is very necessary to read or answer the questions. Only during speaking sections can we look at the webcam since we do not need to look at our screens.
