Sad, men could be friends if it were not for greedy political ambitions by certain few leaders. War is death. All those men probably had PTSD after that. I feel the Major took his life because the deaths of his men. Sad.

The rifles the 77th Infantry Division uses in this movie is the M1917 Enfield, This was the unofficial standard issue rifle for American forces in WW1 because the Springfield 1903 despite being famous in this war and WW2 was only produced in meger numbers so the existing P14 Enfield made under lend lease for the British was rechambered for .30-06. The M1917 Enfield was continue service into WWII with the US Army along with the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine along with lend lease use with the British and Canadian Armies along with the Chinese Nationalist Forces named X Force in the Burma Campaign

Alvin York's movie is wrong also. There were other men in the squad that also helped take prisoners and fight. A professor did research with the families of those men. They never received any medals! Total fabrication for propaganda during WW2.

That's WW1. And York's exploits with a pistol were later verified by the shell casting on the battle ground, exactly where he said they were.

Sadly the many a geat man was lost in WW1,WW2, Korean war and Vietnam. Sadly I fully believe at this time we have VERY FEW men like this now days. IF we were to engage in another war like this there's a GREAT possibility we'd loose this nation. EVERY old soldier able to raise a gun would once again lay it all on the line, that includes cowboys, red necks, mountain folks, moonshiners, country boys etc would lay their lives down to protect the USA basically all the rest would just curl up and cry.

"Hard times create strong men, strong men create easy times, easy times create weak men, weak men create hard times." point is we WILL fight every man will shed his pussified shell in times of war and be thrown into the fire thus showing his true nature and i believe we still have many a great man like this today just haven't had the right chance to show it yet

Europe and the US in two world wars sacrificed millions of some of the strongest, bravest young men of two generations, thereby ending their bloodlines. Imagine how much the loss of those men and their bloodlines likely changed the nations that sent them into that meatgrinder.

I like this movie portrays on several occassions that WW1 was one giant meatgrinding shitchaos without a clear "good vs evil" for common soldiers involved. The ethical and political hatred of WW2 didn't apply here, and like in this movie there are many moments in which the common soldiers can sympathize with their counterparts, knowing they are in just as much shit as they are

Yep. I'm not anti military or anti war in general, in fact I'm a veteran myself, but If there was ever a war that fit the description "rich man's war, poor man's fight", the so-called Great War was it. What a waste. No one seemed to know why they were fighting it or how to stop it. The book "The Guns of August" summed it up perfectly.
