Ma queste voci non andavano microfonate. Che senso ha microfonare voci del genere? Quando si ha la fortuna di avere un cast del genere, ora non esiste più, non bisogna trattarlo come le vocette di oggi... Mi permetto di fare una correzione...Angelotti qui è il basso Enrico Rinaldo e non Marani Antonio. A parte questo mio prefazio, questa recita è stata degna di un grande Teatro. Sono stati tutti molto bravi.

La Chiara ha mai cantato Gioconda? E se no , che Gioconda sarebbe stata !. Ma a memoria ricordo che fu sempre molto oculata e cauta nel repertorio. Comunque immensa. Sempre.

Ero presente: emozione grandissima e serata magnifica. La Cossotto sempre straordianria, bravo pure Py e notevole Carroli. Bellissima edizione e bella regia. Non come le porcate che siamo costretti a vedere oggi. Serata indimenticabile

Il “precursore” della celebre rappresentazione all’Arena di Verona, con lo stesso direttore d’orchestra, il maestro Nello Santi, e quasi gli stessi interpreti (a Verona solo Gyuselev fu sostituito da Nesterenko) è interessante per due motivi: in primo luogo perché l’opera è ancora più adatto per ambienti interni e, in secondo luogo, che Maria Chiara qui è decisamente più in forma: brilla davvero. Ma il miglior Attila l'ho sentito a Roma, ed è stato Roberto Scandiuzzi (ahimè, non ho sentito Ferruccio Furlanetto).

Sorry that is NOT Alfano, that is what Toscanini let survive from Alfano... the real Alfano: in the las bars Turandot and Calaf are singing and not silent as with Toscanini what you here present us. NOT Alfano. You should be better informed before you write Alfano here.

I was there.Domingo,a good actor as everyone knows he was.As a singer ,my impression was ,well a mediocre,,,no better than his recordings.Sintow on the otherhand , far better tha her recordings.Carroli,typical Itarian bariton. Good Iago.The best was chorus and orchestra at that night .and of course Kleiber.

I've heard hundreds of sopranos sing the "Vissi d'arte" and this is one of the most moving renderings of the aria I have encountered: so sustained and so poignant.

Maria, trai migliori soprani degli ultimi 50 anni. Silvano idem ,il vero baritono dopo l ' abbandono di Giangiacomo. E Gianfranco idem con Mario ( del Monaco) . Vere autentiche voci. Come solo il Veneto ha sfornato per numero e qualità.

As a young staff producer I was involved in this production in 1981. Cècchele was not well received at the time. I must admit when listening now I find he sounds pretty good. I think the problem was his voice was too small in the theater. The voice records well and that is probably why he sounds better than he did live. Chiara was terribly underrated - she is nothing short of magnificent here. The young Delores Ziegler making her European debut was still unknown in 1981. (She went on to make a huge career (and as far as I know never sang Emilia or other comprimario roles after this). Other casts in this production included Carlo Cossutta as Otello, Margaret Price/Pilar Lorengar as Desdemona, and Cappuccilli as Iago. Krenz's contract as Musical Director of the Bonn Opera was terminated at the end of this season (1981/82) and he didn't really much opera conducting after that. He was a pretty despotic bad tempered person - but I find the performance here in retrospect nevertheless quite exciting.
