I love this! Thanks so much! My spiritus sancti is one of my favorite plants. BUT THESE SPOTS! I know you said that you treated yours with antifungal, but Ive seen other people with the spots and say its due to not cleaning the leaves enough, some say its water droplets + light scarring the leaves. Please keep us updated on yours - Did the antifungal solve the problem?
@plantgayforlifeКүн бұрын
Yes! The antifungal solved it. Keep using a systemic in each watering or as directed on the label. And as new leaves emerge, cut off the infected ones. I was able to get mine spot free. But yeah pss seems very susceptible to these spots. My other one had them too.

Most people are grass worshippers by upbringing and believe lawns and meadows are nature's biggest gift, not these Philodendrons that grow on rocks and trees, ugh. We live on a dying planet because these adored things do not form ecosystems. But they make you feel on top of the world (or lawnmower) and not small like underneath giant trees. End of rant. Great video, Jake!
@plantgayforlifeКүн бұрын
I would argue aroids (a family where endemism is a common occurrence) do form healthy, diverse ecosystems with a large gene pool. In environments with a lot endemism, highly localized plants can keep fast-spreading plants in check. They are an overlooked aspect of rainforests, mostly because we see palms and ferns for miles…aroids not so much
@dougveganparadisebuilder5808Күн бұрын
@@plantgayforlife My point is that enormous amounts of grass don't form healthy ecosystems but that we install them everywhere we can and defend them to death. I am not in that "we" of course.

When I was new to the plant hobby, I often saw plants by how “rare” they were. Now I’m in the part of my plant journey where I really enjoy learning about the plant’s origins and they can be appreciated more deeply. 😊
@plantgayforlifeКүн бұрын
I love that! When people in this hobby only see plants for their rarity, they’re caught in a never-ending cycle of hunting and attaining. Then when the plant becomes common, they get rid of it once they realize they never actually liked the plant in the first place. They only liked the clout that came with it. They never get a chance to appreciate a single plant because they’re too focused on being one of the ‘cool kids’ who has said plant.

Yes, let's talk! You're both intelligent and wise (too many are one without the other! Or conflate them...) Anyway, I've taken topiramate for anxiety or depression or both - and I became suicidal. Just in case no one mentioned that side effect to you, I thought I should. I'd hate for you to feel that way. You've created a family and we're here for you! I'm totally comfortable discussing mental health and I am sure it'll be helpful to others even if they're not up for discussing it. I can't wait to see you geeking out and enjoying the wonder and beauty of the rainforest. I wonder if plants respond to electromagnetic fields and things of which we may not be consciously aware... Like I'm not aware of my altitude! Would they prefer listening to the sounds of the jungle over my music? Do the frequencies matter? Am I being weird? Please stay Plant Gay for Life! Or just Jake - cuz your THE planty Jake! Take it easy, man. I think your weight is perfect but if you're more comfortable at a different weight, go for it. However, if you start feeling down (and I've no idea how long you've been taking topiramate) but please be mindful that it did fuck a chica up - hombres aren't immune. 💚
@plantgayforlife4 күн бұрын
Thank you Meredith! I got my meds through brightside/better help and I check in with my provider every couple months. I have been on it for a couple months and am not suicidal thankfully:) And you’re right, there’s so much about plants we don’t know, or things we think we know that are completely wrong. Plants are definitely WEIRD and sometimes we have to ask weird questions to try to understand them better.

tofu, beans, etc are great protein and not as calorie dense as animal products. I always have Morningstar/Boca stuff around to make a sandwich. you can make hummus with a can of chick peas and peanut butter, add lemon, garlic, spice, whatever, a protein win. sugars and fats in snacks are really hard for me control, but I just skip snack aisles, what you don't bring home you can't eat. I try to trick my mind into not eating sugars, just remind yourself it destroys cells, even you skin, and we don't want to be prematurely aging, do we? artificial sweeteners are bad just for different reasons, destroy your gut microbiome so you aren't properly processing. Keeping a healthy gut also helps with weight control.
@plantgayforlife4 күн бұрын
“What you don’t bring home you can’t eat.” SO TRUE! Sometimes I snatch something at the store and regret it so much when I get home. I definitely avoid the snack aisles and I ALWAYS go grocery shopping with a LIST. And I stick to it. I drink a LOT of tea so I do have a lot of artificial sweeteners so I can drink 0 calorie tea. I know it’s not good and I’m being more conscious about how much actual water I’m drinking throughout the day, rather than drinking artificially sweetened tea when I’m thirsty.
