I just found this on the website "Language Arts New Edition Schedule (Schedule Last Updated July 2024): .... Level 5: A new edition was released on March 8, 2022. Levels 6 and 7: We plan to release new editions of these levels in 2026. Level 8: A new edition will be released in the coming years after the Levels 6 and 7 courses are released. It will be a full-length course that will replace our current Level 8 Book Studies."

@OnTheSamePageTogether thank you so much! This will be our first year doing anything TGTB so I'm a little overwhelmed on the website! Since this video was a year ago, would you share how it went? I'm looking to fill in some grammar gaps with my 8th grader.
@OnTheSamePageTogether
@OnTheSamePageTogether 19 күн бұрын
Ok, so I bought this level at the same time as level 6 to make sure I didn't miss out on this version when the new ones are released because we move through core subjects slower as we focus on child led interests if that makes sense. The reason I didn't want to risk it selling out on me is that the updated versions of LA are more on grade level where the previous versions (like this one) were more rigorous and my kiddo prefers that approach. We haven't made it to this level yet, and it will honestly be a while BUT I can tell you from our experience of needing to fill grammar gaps after bringing them home from public school that TGTB does a REALLY good job of that even if you're coming to them for the first time but not starting at level 1. So much so that when the new level 4 version wasn't working for my kiddo who completed this version's levels 1-3, they were able to jump to level 6! I pulled out the Level 7 course book before replying and noticed that it has A LOT of different grammer work, with explanations in case the concepts are new to the student, and focuses on different steps of the grammer process. Kinda like a MAJOR review of all the grammar they should know before entering highschool which sounds like it might be exactly what you're looking for. 💖

My rising 4th grade daughter is BEGGING me to do this unit lol. I’m afraid a lot will be over her head but may do it anyway and we can revisit again a few years down the road. So hard to decide!! I know I would learn so much as well. Great flip through ❤.

I would definitely do it while she's asking for it! From my experience if I wait until I feel it's a good time I often miss the interest window and then they respond to it as if they've never even had an interest and are no longer receptive to the material. She will absorb so much more now than she would if you miss the interest window 💓 Most highschool requirements include a Government Class of some sort so you'll definitely circle back 😊

Hello! I would love to know an update on how the curriculum has worked for you all? Did it help your children get to a point of confident conversation and fluency?
@OnTheSamePageTogether
@OnTheSamePageTogether Ай бұрын
My kiddo learned what I wanted them to and siblings learned quite a bit by being in the same room as we did the lessons, especially the conversation practice. We didn't finish the program, but that is only because I speak Spanish and only wanted a curriculum for introductory lessons to cover the basics of the language. Once my child got to the level where I felt they had a solid foundation I moved into using more lifestyle resources such as reading, music, videos, speaking, etc. We've also found Duolingo to be a good learning tool once we laid a foundation (letters, sounds, colors, numbers, etc).

Yes, the holes for the wire binding are 2:1 pitch which I have found is quite consistent across binding machines for that type of binding. I couldn't find a 2:1 spiral coil so I decided to go for a 3:1 and stretch it over and have found it to work just fine in daily use. 😄 I start putting the spiral coil in at 23:25 if that helps 😇

For the Little Hearts and Hands units the videos can be found 2 ways: 1. on the FREE Homeschooling app from TGTB - I have a video walking through the 2 apps TGTB has and in the description of that video there's a link to where you can download them kzbin.info/www/bejne/j32YpYqZnJx2gMk (if this link doesn't work it will also be in the description of THIS video) 2. at the password protected URL listed in the Lesson Overview section at the front of the Parent Guide (the password is also listed there)

Thank you for the flip through this was helpful! I didn't do an actual math curriculum last year, just different math workbooks and a lot of stuff we covered I noticed that is in this book. However, I would hate to get the level 1 G+B math course and her have missed a few things. Do you know if level 1 math covers some of the same stuff in level k?
@OnTheSamePageTogether
@OnTheSamePageTogether 2 ай бұрын
TGTB uses a spiral approach so they will see things again in the review sections of future lessons/units/courses. Lessons on the same topic are usually building on the skills introduced before. With Math Level K specifically the Unit Assessment says "children are not expected to master all concepts before moving to the Math 1, as Math 1 reviews most concepts taught in Math K... It is suggested that the child Master the following items before moving to math 1: Counting from 1 to 100 Single-digit addition Counting by 2s to 10 Recognizing colors" If your child has mastered those 4 concepts, they'll probably be fine skipping Level K. If you want to be doubly sure about no gaps my recommendation is to download the FREE Math Level K PDF and go through the 3 Unit Assessments with your kiddo because they cover "only concepts that are expected to be mastered at this point." And maybe even the Course Assessment. You can then look through the Level K table of contents for lessons that cover the concepts they didn't pass and target just those before jumping into Level 1. You can also check Level 1 to see if they'll be covered at the level they need (based on the assessment result). I hope this is enough info to help you formulate a plan that will work best for your kiddo 💕

That's so fun! I admire families that do monthly themes 😍 We don't do monthly themes in our homeschool because from my experience that requires a lot of planning and gathering on my part and I just don't have the time/capacity to do it 😅. Not to mention that we just don't get to everything everyday so there would always be things we don't get to which would either pile up or leave me feeling discouraged about planning another. 😔 May sound like a lot of excuses, and some would say that I should do it anyway "for the children!" BUT my goal is to make school minimally stressful and still exciting so that nobody in our home burns out 😇

@OnTheSamePageTogether 3 ай бұрын
Ok so it depends, if he has a good beginner background or even exposure to the things in the course and truly has a passion for them, then he's probably ready to soak it up, BUT due to his age I would take it SLOW and make sure he has a chance to process the information. If he doesn't have at least a good exposure to learning about these topics already, then Little Hearts and Hands: Fields and Flowers would be a better place to start because they cover a few of these topics at a simpler level with engaging content and activities geared towards preschool to 2nd grade kiddos. I linked to my flip through of it in the description of this video for you 💖

This is a great question! I always find it frustrating to hear that other kids blew through the booster cards faster than the text book. My daughter is dyslexic and struggles with the booster cards. She cannot “master” the words, bc she doesn’t read normally. She has to learn and master the phonics and know the rules of spelling and reading to effectively read.

I can definitely understand the frustration and challenge that learning struggles can bring. All of my children, so far, have had a hard time learning their letters and then reading. For this particular kiddo we had to pause the previous edition of Level 1 for a long time, and spend time focusing on reading skills. Once it clicked and they gained traction, it seemed like they burst through the wall with an explosion of ability. Suddenly they were leaps and bounds ahead, and I was left trying to keep up! After finishing the old level 1 we got this new level 2, and due to the pause, my child is older than the "typical" age for this level. Math moves very slowly for them as well. I hope your daughter reaches breakthroughs in her learning with your efforts to teach her in the ways that are best for HER. 💞 I'm sorry it took so long to respond, I had a hard time trying to come up with wording that sounds (hopefully) encouraging rather than dismissive or otherwise negative 😬
