the IT band is not a band. It is connective tissue and it does not "stretch". You have to strengthen the lateral lines of the legs. Check out Anatomy Trains fascial lines.

Staying strong helps bone density and aging, staying flecible and bslanced helps you feel young. Stress hormonescare diminished and oxygen uptake is incrrased. It is the brst antiaging system I know

I appreciate how well this reformer really does give you a work out. I like how I can fold it up out of the way and then slide it open. I’m 74 and it is easy on my joints but strengthens me. Love it 🎉

I have the older model that the ropes are not attached at all higher level, I cannot attach a pull up bar . Is the lower rope attachment not ergonomic ? Do I need a newer model ?

Yes if you want the pull-up bar you will have to upgrade.

All the upper body work with your hands in the straps will strengthen your traps and back muscles getting rid of fat. Focus on initiating from the shoulder blades and then the twisting exercises like side sitting with a twist, stomach massage with a twist will also help

All exercises that require pulling the platform home on low cords will make you use your pelvic floor. Try Elephant on 1 black cord and you will know what I mean

I was planning to give away my aeropilates reformer because I haven't used it due to always feeling dizzy. I just watched this. I think I'll get it out of the closet and give it a try.

Your leadership in managing oneself and in using the reformer have sooo positively impacted me life. It has helped me manage physical strength, weight management and depression. I have also helped 2 others by helping buy them an aero Pilates machine it help them be self managing folks vs being a victim. Sometimes it takes, sometimes not so much. Meanwhile your videos and my own time on the machine keep helping me find my own path in resilience. Thanks Marjolien. I have the reformer that didn’t have the straps elevated above the frame. It has the wooden covers for each end Will that affect the workout? Do I need a new reformer?and where do I purchase new black bands ?

Hi! You have a beautiful old model with the wood accents. It didn't have the pulley risers which offer a wider range of motion on some exercises, but you should be able to do the exercises of the video anyway (for example, just pay attention to Leg Lowers or Leg Circles: if you go too low the ropes catch the the shoulder rests). You can buy new bungee cords (black, red or yellow) by contacting stamina products if you are in the US: staminaproducts.com/contact/ . All newest models with the Pulley Risers can be upgraded with the pull-up bar, which lets you do more upper body exercises. 5 bungee cords machine offer a wider platform, wider foot bar and wider cardio rebounder.

Hello Marjolein, thank you for this video! I have this exact Pilates reformer with the extended foot platform and the pull-up bar as well and I just love it! In the last couple of weeks I have been suffering from sciatica and the pain has been really bad, so I couldn't do much other than stretching exercises given by a physiotherapist. I am now in my third week and the pain has decreased quite a bit so I hope to be able to get on my reformer any day now and I'm looking forward to doing this workout! Hi. I have one of the old areo pilates machine with 4 black cords. i am wanting to use it more. Can you tell me the black cords to the coloured ones. when you say one red and one black, how many blacks would i use?

I purchased your original pilates performer back in your early days on QVC and have been a fan of yours ever since. I later upgraded to the 5-cord reformer on a stand. I even have the box & pole and ballet bar among other accessories you’ve offered through the years. While I take aging aerobics/strength classes now, I feel the need to get back to core strengthening exercises as well. Your Back to Basics routine is just what I need. Unfortunately, as others have commented, this video quality is blurry, but, as always, your instruction is superb.

I have noticed that I sometimes get a headache when I first sit up after using the reformer. It doesn't last long. and I do use the pillow. I am not sure if it's the position of the pillow or something else. Have others complained of this?

that is not a complaint I have ever heard however, one in 10,000 people complain of motion sickness after rebounding usually because they’re lying on their backs, looking at a very white ceiling so the eyes and the ears are not registering the same message to the brain of movement, the simple solution is to just lift your head and look around the room. It seems to work for everybody both have the same message to the brain that you’re moving so you need to be able to see something that’s moving And that seems to fix it for everybody
