Thank You for this insight into the entire Cocodona experience. I’ll be pacing my friend, 1st time pacing, at Cocodona 2025. We are early in the planning and have two pacers. I’ll be doing the majority of the pacing. Do you having any insight or suggestions on training distances? Would it be best to train as if I’m running 250 miles? Thanks!
@nextinlinedevelopment2214 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking this podcast out! That’s a tough question to answer. It depends on what kind of experience you have running longer races. I would say build up a base to where you are running 50 miles a week and then mix in some longer runs 15-25 mile runs, and get to where you are comfortable with the nutrition, hydration, and time on feet, also be away of the pacing and what your runner needs you to be able to do!

Listened the Wild at Heart, and definitely agree with a whole lot he had to say. A small bit of it felt a bit "prosperity gospel" at times, particularly the prayer to recite. But overall, taken (as all books aside from scripture should be), with a grain of salt, excellent points to concider.
@nextinlinedevelopment2214 ай бұрын
Great points. And I do agree with the prayers and some of the mindsets being “prosperity gospel”, But I do believe men have been “neutered” by society today to a point of being far away from our intended purpose. I meant to ask you, do you have a crew for Big Tex Backyard in November? If you need it, I’d be happy to help as I’m not running this year.
@PapaSmurfGames4 ай бұрын
@nextinlinedevelopment221 100%on males being "nutered" especially in the church. As for crew....idk.....I sent a FB message with more details. I might be a bit underqualified/undeserving.😂

While I do not subscribe to ghosts goblins and voodoo, I do have one experience that I cannot rationally explain. More to the point of my comment, there are times when events align that defies coincidence - me picking today to listen to your podcast after months of being away. The power of this episode would take hours of discussion. Thank you.

First and foremost, welcome back. You’ve been missed. The coincidences in life lately have been rather hard to explain for me as well. I "Fell in Love with running all over again" 11 years ago when I ran the JFK 50 Miler for its 50th Anniversary 2 weeks after I turned 50. Ultras are so much more satisfying than the Relentless pursuit of BQs. At 61, I'm Grateful to be running and married to my eternal companion for the last 41+ years. Glad to hear you are doing so well Chance. See you in 21 days.

Glad your 50 went well! Mine didn’t go as well given a fluke Hot Day and a course with no shade and 100% asphalt. In short, I pulled at 31.52 in 6 hours but was dehydrated and had some other issues that made it better to stop. Got some food in me and rehydrated, then ran 14 more with about 800' of climb starting at 3am. All within the same 24 hour window. Great Learning experience, Bad 50 miler. Ha! Also, my wife's top 2 movies to watch are A Knights Tale and Sahara. Probably seen both over 100 times each. :-) Great Stuff and having broken the mold in my own family, I appreciated the focal point of the cast today. See you in a month!

Congratulations to both of you Chance! You are clearly sharper than I was 38 years ago for my 1st of 3 sons. As a Sailor, and 10K Racer back then, I didn't slow down to see those positives. Waited 30 years to get my 1st "daughter," and now I have 3 with 2 granddaughters. At 61, our current goals are aligned, and I look forward to seeing you in Clinton for the Katy 225!

Thank you, Robert! I appreciate you sharing your perspective! I feel like it’s very easy to get caught up in the flow of life and overlook things. Especially when you’ve got as much going on as you did at that time too. Worrying about raising your kids, earning a living, being a good man, and still making time for your goals was/is incredibly challenging. It’s fully credited to the awesome men around me that I have been able to come to some of these conclusions. I’d love to get to speak with you sometime more about all of this! Definitely looking forward to seeing you in October as well!

I think often we hide that part of us that is the inner critic, and when we hear what others say it can teach us the lesson to be okay with the mistakes and focus on all the awesome things that got you to right now. Beautiful podcast.
