Cournoyer and Mahovolich Habs Dynasty start

Foster Hewitt was the original iconic voice of Hockey Night in Canada in the 40's and 50's but by 1972 he had lost a few steps. His voice is halting, shaky and thin and his absolute inability to pronounce Cournoyer and Tretiak is annoying. And Brian Conacher commentary is just bizarre. At one point he inexplicably says Canada must rely on their superior skating and shooting, rather than physical play. WTF was he talking about? Should have been Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin in the booth.

Hewitt was a terrible commentator. He obviously didn't learn all the rules of the game, and I'm sure he was better on the radio, but we listeners wouldn't know his short comings. AND just what is an "odd man advantage" and when does it become an "even man advantage"??

At exactly 55:04 PAUL HENDERSON scores - with 4 Russians around him - and the light does not go on to report the goal - - Because the Russians try to say it was not a goal -

The soviets had prepared for months prior to those games. The Canadians were not training in the summer back then. They didn’t know anything about the opposite players while the soviets had watched NHL games and knew where the weakeness were. It was a rude awakening for sure.

Some dirty play from Canadians. No need for that, you got enough skills to win in clean game. Bobby Clarke is just a dirty d"ckhead.

Phil Esposito is such a bitter defender of the cheap capitalism of North America. "Society!" is some kind of winner. Bullshit. North American free market capitalism is a dead end system.

The goaltending in Game 2 with Tony Esposito was the difference maker. Dryden did not play to the level in game 1. Tony gave his team the chance to play their style of game and reset the series and be an inspired group.

The Soviet players back in the day were all on the juice which in todays language is steroids or super hormon treatments which many eastern Olympic athletes died from too much and .Another thing they reviewed after the soviets used a lot off stick work which was shown after the fact on who was really dirty. That is why you seen the chippy play when the series continued.

The western world the King of Doping! Canada was better shape this se Series than Russians! Pavel Bure's father won only bronze 100 meter swimming in 1972! USA Mark Spitz won gold! Our Finnish Long distance running olympic champions used strong stimulant amfetamin in already in 1930s! The blood doping was the first time used by west German footballers in 1954! The british doping cyclist Simpson died amfetamin over dose in Tour de France in 1967! After that they started to do drug tests! We Are Testing doping drugs because western world doping! The doping Kings=John McEnroe(horsehormone) Mark McGwire Jose Canseco Barry Bonds Marion Jones Justin Gatlin Franseco Moser Eddy Merxkx Marco Pantani Lance Armstrong Johaug Sundby Linford Christie Jaap Stam Edgar Davids Randy Barnes Ben Johnson Myllylä Vainio Isometsä Linda Haglund Ricky Bruch and so on! The most known person in Italy is doping Cyclist Marco Pantani! 93% of the people of Italy knew and loved scum bag Pantani! If Russians were bigger dopers than Canada in 1972 the results would have been 10-0 11-0 8-0 for Soviets wins! You do not believe that western 'clean' athletes can beat doping Stars! Clean athletes would lose 4-5 minutes against Lance Armstrong 60 minutes time trial!! Come on! Get life and live a real world not fantasy that clean Canada can beat Russians!, Why they skate so slowly in 1972 if Russians are the Kings of Doping!!

Would be nice if they just played the national anthems on the organ now in the NHL rather than having to listen to singers trying to put their particular mark on it. The 70s was rough, but at least it had some class. My $0.02.

i know this is been said by many but I HAVE TO SAY IT I WAS A FAN FOR 40 OF THOSE 45 YEARS, 1972 MY 1st game 10 years old (Toronto 6 Kings 4 Kings scored 3 in the 3rd & almost got it) I was freaking out when I walked into that spaceship called the 'Fabulous Forum ..needless to say you know how loud I screamed when we won it all! I couldn't help but notice an 11 year old boy just in front of my seat & thought to myself damn he will never ever understand what we ALL WENT THROUGH ALL THOSE YEARS. By the way it was his 1st season as a fan.

The INFAMOUS 72 SUMMIT SERIES. The only way the lowly Canucks could win is by cheating. Dirty hits, cheap fights and slashes and who could forget, the massive slash on the former late great Valeri Kharlamov in which the classless dirty worms, Harry Sinden and bitch Clarke were at their classless best. The Canadians only "won" by using the best tactics they know how, slashing, cheap hits and fighting. Let's get serious, Russia was truly the better hockey team, by far, and without the slash on Kharlamov would have easily won the series.
