A good quality instrument is a must. If you are serious in playing don't buy a cheap sax. I have a Yamaha YAS 62 and it plays beautiful. Yes It's expensive but well worth it.

Also excessive saliva build up on the inside of the reed face can cause squeaking. Simply remove the reed, wipe it down and try again. Also diaphragm and embouchure control will prevent squeaking. Thats something that just takes time. Sometimes you have to be careful how you lay (attack) into a note. Sight reading can contribute to the problem. Sometime it is possible to spend more time concentrating on the reading than what you are doing with the instrument. All this stuff just takes time to figure out so don't give up..
@olafstenzel26847 күн бұрын
You said too hard reeds tend to squeak, but for me it is the opposite. When reeds are too soft, I get a lot of squeaks especially when the reeds are getting softened by playing them „too long“. When I change to new reeds of the same strength, the squeaking stops.
@saxophonespirit7 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right, but what i mean is: People/ Beginners (me included) tend to bite, to get a tone out of the horn if the reed is too strong for their "weak" mouthmuscles.
@olafstenzel26847 күн бұрын
@ oh yes, if you use too hard reeds you need more air pressure. It happens to me too, that I loose my power and tend to bite.

In my saxophone, the lower octave key was not correctly centered over the opening. This sometimes caused a squeak and sometimes a kind of "rumble" (Quin Marry in the harbor) but not as usual with beginners on the low notes (B, B flat) but on the middle notes between G and D.

Hey, thank you :) It’s also my mic for gigging with the Alto Sax. I played it with the tenor only once, but I also think it sounds muffled. I tested every mode (green/ orange/ red) but with the tenor it sounds not great. But with my Alto, I love it!

I have often battled with the absolute lowest notes. After my last gig I realized what was wrong. I had my sax hanging too low and one of the keys was hitting against my thigh instead of opening!

Reed position on the mouthpiece can also cause squeaks. Sometimes when adjusting the mpc for tone the reed can get pushed out of place so it’s a good idea to check it.

If the DJ is going to choose the tunes. eg Mr Sax o Beat surely he/She is going to have tracks with Sax already on them?
@saxophonespirit3 ай бұрын
That’s obviously right :) but often locations want a „real“ Musician in addition to a DJ to heat up the audience. It makes a big difference if there is a guy behind a MacBook who press the play button - or if there is an entertaining musician. (With this I don’t want to talk the art of djing down!) So it makes sense for a DJ to have these tracks without a Saxophone. Normally the musician bring along these backingtracks. But you have to talk with the DJ if it fits in his set.

It would appear that you did not ‘tune’ the two instruments to the same note, hence why the Jupiter sounds a little off compared to the YAS23 (AS100). That said, the YAS23 is still the better instrument, regardless of the tunning! Thanks for sharing your experience with these two instruments.

The Jupiter was a little sharp the whole time so I couldn’t get a sense of tone from the Jupiter compared to the Yamaha. Of course the Yamaha is better, yet you’re getting an instrument almost as good but for 1/2 the price.

The Yamaha has a warmer and better tone than the Jupiter. The Jupiter sounds a little stuffy...and annoyingly buzzy. The Yamaha has a more refined tone and better tonal body.
