It's kind of a weird argument you are making, why would you be so annoyed (and you obviously are) about overpriced listings, if you could just easily buy it for less. Just go ahead and buy one of the cheap ones. Obviously it's not that easy to buy them for less, or you wouldn't be talking so much about higher listings.

I think its impossible to create a mathematical formula for how much a card is worth IF it is a modern card. The reason I say this is because of what so few people consider which you have mentioned and that is manufactured rarity. The Mickey Mantle PSA 10 is rare because it is SO old and the likelihood of another PSA10 surfacing is so unlikely. Take a 1980 Rickey Henderson....a mathematical formula could probably be used for that...looking at print runs, time elapsed since print, player ranking, and other metrics. BUT a modern 1 of 1 Wemby is not the same. In the SAME set you have 47 different wembys...all the same freakin photo just different color borders/bkg essentially (how lazy!) and the manufacturer chose a particular color to be the 1 of 1...hence manufactured scarcity. Add to that multiple sets from multiple manufacturers. Wemby has no ranking yet (and may or may not in the future), there are 46 other cards of his in the one set alone and there are ALOT of people gambling on him. Some overly wealthy person who got into the hobby may pay $1,000,000 for a 2023 Wemby 1 of 1. Good for them. BUT what if 3 years from now Wemby turns out to be a dud and not an all time great. Is that 1 of 1 still "worth" a million just because it is rare? No! BUT will the Mickey Mantle still be worth an insane amount? Yes!

I mainly collect pre-1960 Disney cards; yes, you're a sports card channel and it is largely explored; my main observation is that dealers are selling vintage sports and buying vintage non-sports; the grass is not greener, but at least there's grass in vintage non-sports as opposed to weeds

I agree with you if you are tallking about post-1980 cards; I would say you are wrong in the 3 year horizon generally for pre-1980 single cards; if I'm wrong, modern is toast

HOF cards always sell and don't move much in value, especially from the 50's-70's , the rest of the market is saturated, there is nothing rare about a modern day athletes RC out of the box.

I would be interested in the dealer network thing. I have probably 80k sports cards and about 50k Pokémon cards. The Pokémon cards I have an idea on the value but the sports cards I couldn’t tell you what they are worth. I have just bought collections over the past 8 years and never really looked at most of them. I do have some newer stuff since I too bought a lot during Covid.

I enjoy this video very much. I have an opinion and I hope I don’t rub a few feathers … BUT imo here’s what’s holding the (nba) market up , Logomans , 2012 prizm, 1/1’s, autographs of elite players , rc cards of high valued players . Once those fall then yea market come down and it will Look crazy but that’s where most of the money is in. lol maybe I sound crazy but yea

@@BRIANCARRUTHERS I looked at a prediction using a.i. right? , it says some time next year we should be at 2020 prices and then by 2026-27 we should be near if not over where we were with Covid in 2021, but my thinking is what is sought after will shift, I.e. fanatics cards and quite possibly other brands of panini that don’t get the same attention (impeccable, noir ,one and one, optic(older sets) origins, topps black, and maybe some odd ball ones like Flux , and chronicles. these sets are beautiful and I feel in the next few years the pull will be towards more beautiful cards)

The "market" is relative to what your collecting. if you are collecting contrived scarcity BS shiney, such as 1000 different trout rookie cards...Of course you're gonna lose your A**. Every collector knows that. if you're talking about real baseball cards such as players that were actually men AND GOOD like Wagner, Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Mantle & Mays they have gone up over time 5 to 10 fold. Now Mays had a dead cat bounce when he passed but have settled in nicely, especially the rarities. Check out some prices at the auction houses. POP THAT. People with the Shiney shimmers 1 of 1's PSA 10's, they need to sell ASAP or 99% of that stuff is going to go into the toilet. The same way they have been heading since they were printed.

We disagree with about 90 percent of your comments. First of all with real money gambling, if you lose, you don’t have anything left except whatever enjoyment you got from playing !!!! With sports cards, you still have the cards even if the cards are only worth a penny each !!! So that comparison is night and day !!! With your children, these days with the internet and other things, there are so many worse things your child could be involved in other than the sports card hobby !!! For instance, drug addiction is about a million times worse than being involved in a sports card hobby !!!! We know personally at least 6 people who have lost children to a drug overdose !!! Possibly if they were involved in a hobby where they could interact with their children and have conversation could have prevented that, if only with one of them !!! Most of all, it’s up to the parents to educate your children on the good or bad of anything that is going on !!! Try not to act like you know everything because there are different strokes for different folks !!!!😎

as with everything else its a teaching moment with your kid. we are playing in a gray area here. a mystery is not always gambling. gambling requires a desire to win. we rip wax because we enjoy collecting and opening cards. we enjoy the discovery of opening packs. there is no sense of lose because we dont go into looking to win. we go into it looking to build our collection. the hobby has gotten itself so confused that video topics like this happen all the time. are you really only buying cards to win? thats sad and i feel sorry for you

Getting back to your question regarding collecting the right modern rookie cards. I like to collect for modern Basketball, Prizm Base and Prizm Silver/lower pop. The same with modern Football, Prizm Base and Prizm Silver/lower pop. Hockey is easy as Upper Deck Young Guns has been THE rookie card for the past 20+ years. Modern Baseball is where it gets tricky because you have Topps, Topps Chrome, Bowman and Bowman Chrome. If you were to collect Harper, Ohtani, Judge and Soto rookie cards, what would you choose? I actually think Topps Gold Parallel Baseball Rookie Cards are underrated in the hobby. The Photo is from the Flagship set but it’s lower pop so you sort of get the best of both worlds. I would love to hear different opinions on modern baseball cards? Thanks.

they dont even print odds on boxes/packs anymore they have em listed on their website to cover their asses just one more scummy move from a unregulated space whats worse is that these card companies funnel the good hits or the hits of the product to breakers so those odds arent even accurate

I had a shop 1989-92. The sweet spot. No grading. Great to go by Beckett and SCD ( newspaper) learned about the Jordan 100! 86 -87 fleer. Had the connection. My friend is a wholesale dealer out of Mason City Iowa. Hewett Wholesale. Cases! But it was not where it is now. My point after name dropping. Condition absolute. But “ Slab” is like Merch to me. Those were fun times! The old school cards loved em! And kink wax good times before all this micro managing for the grading. I really appreciate your channel. Did you rip packs open, take the good cards out and reseal them? Betcha did, they all did. The Beckett guide was poison. Pumping up junk wax cards and creating value out of thin air, then with advertisements in the back how to buy rookie cards in bulk? 😂. You telling me they had a whole business around baseball cards and didn’t know they were being produced at that rate? Of course they did. The hobby and hobbyists are doing well…the lowlifes who swoop in once every 25 years and pretend like it’s “investing” are leaving now. That’s good.

Yah I have never pulled a great card from a box of cards or wax packs. Well maybe when 6 or 7 years old and no odds and I don’t want tell my age back then,ha. I think my last box I bought was like in 1995. Just didn’t see the % in doing that. I just searched for the card or cards I was looking for and that was a way better idea paying up. Modern cards too much gambling in the deal. Sometimes great, to many times not so.

LIke Other platforms in the card space, I think CLLCT will take years to really get off the ground and build a strong customer base. Ebay has been around for decades and is the biggest online marketplace, I don't think this platform will really change that. I for one am happy about the biggest card seller on ebay leaving the platform. Since a large portion of my ebay card store is low-mid end, I expect a jump in sales after they leave.

I've been putting money into WNBA Goat Rookies from late 90s early 2000s like Sue Bird, Taurasi, Catchings, Leslie etc... Those early Pinnacle and Fleer Ultra sets were definitely printed less than today's and could actually deliver some scarcity. If the Caitlyn Clarke craze adds eyeballs to the WNBA, hopefully these early greats will garner more attention from the hobby. What do you think of my strategy (as an "investment")?
