Hot take: Seeker’s real purpose is to give good magic damage for the protagonist without relying too much on Mage and Healer. The Belga Corridor (which many took on in the prologue) has Ogres that become more powerful when you have a Mage and Healer Archetype equipped. Seeker fills the void of being a magic user without forcing yourself into that weakness against Goblin enemies. As far Synthesis skills go, Rider of the Blade Aldo’s you to do physical light damage if you have a more physical stat spread (but I prefer to keep Will’s Strength and Magic stats as high as possible for every Archetype they use). It’s the easiest Archetype to use, and the challenge of making it “good” revolves around using your imagination. 6:49 Exactly! Plus, you can’t inherit skills until after the Nord Mines. So good luck doing as much damage as possible before that human or dragon kills you.

seeker lineage kinda sucks ass until you reach Soul Hacker. Yes, you get a higher rank of wind magic, but the stats aren't good enough for it to matter. Vitalja is the best thing pre soul hacker

i love the archetype system. It fixes my issues with the persona system where end game all your personas have similar builds since you can customize all 8 skills. Metaphor forces you to keep the class skills but lets you inherit skills on top of it making the game force you to use the entire kit of the class. i love this and i hope in p6 they limit the skills you can inheret, like the older games.

My only gripes is lvling/farming. Does each thing have to be up to 20. As well as equips being locked behind it. Unlocking skills is not bad at end game once you have best farm. Another gripe is the auto equipment. Or just forgetting to inherit skills or equip right job class for a battle.

The differences are cultural. Japanese culture is so regimented and steeped in tradition that even the most minor deviations from the expected or appropriate behavior can evoke an emotional response in a player born and raised in Japan that can really sell the story about a character. English speaking audiences require much more colorful portrayals to evoke the same emotions or achieve the same characterizations. Alternatively, certain characterizations just don't carry the same weight or significance in the west, so an entirely different characterization is chosen so that the audience will still be able to resonate with the character enough so that the character can properly fulfill it's role in the story.

Im hoping its the same in Chinese but its a lilttle weird to use the Japanese text of a Chinese game to say what the English translation should be for HSR

Choices have to be made by the localization teams - there isn’t one way to go about translation. Unfortunately, Altus Americas strategy didn’t align with what you think should be good translation… but that doesn’t make it bad. None of the examples you gave for metaphor are actually « bad » … your own personal expectations for a translation were not met…

i think that they did a great job the english speech dialect and slang added greatly to the fantasy setting and world

Anyone who's played a fan translation that tried to be literal, knows that they always become a miserable reading experience, a miserable dry experience. It's why translations are rarely literal and 1:1.

I think the localisation is really well made and the way they used english in the game really sold the fantasy setting. It was quite immersive I would say.

There is no such thing as a perfect translation. 100% word by word won't give off the same vibe, as someone who would sound rude in japanase because their standard for rudeness are well lower than ours, would just be midly familiar for an english audience if you don't translate it. I've been consuming fantrad for a decade before the rise or proffesional translation became standardised and let me tell you that just because those fantrad were more faithful they didn't feel more natural. Sure one could argue that we could just learn japanese culture and we wouldn't get confused by a literal translation anymore, but that would still feel weird. How do you translate someone finishing their sentence in arinsu or gozaru style ? You have to make every word of the sentence more elegant or more rash if you want to give the idea, there is no direct equivalent in english. And that's why people who love to complain about translation will always find something to complain about and it's a never ending cycle because they are asking for something that is literally impossible.

I can understand and speak japanese fully, and know enough to read about 800 kanji. I usually play jrpgs in jp voices and English text, so I can tell you. Localisation is hardly ever faithful in terms of non voiced characterisation. I've always felt discrepancy between the Japanese character and English speaking character. It's always been there and probably won't go away

As much i loved Orpheus, Grinding him to level 99 are not worth the time and effort. especially the fact that Orpheus need much more xp than other Persona in order to level up.

Yeah despite being the weakest starting Persona. Orpheus are canonaly quite strong. too bad it took too much time to fully level up Orpheus.

I think it would be positive reviews if the base game was $60 and Episode Aigis was sold for $10. I didn’t mind the price because I got a lot of value because of playtime I’ve gotten from this game, but I’m an exception not the standard for most people playing the game. I enjoyed the content but don’t agree with the price point.

I was surprised to see they removed the scene where Yukari tried taking away the key from Aigis' hands. The voice direction (both in JP and EN) in Episode Aigis may have been much closer to the original FES' JP version, but removing that one scene after you fight her and Mitsuru took away a LOT of the emotional weight from the scene. I guess Atlus really took the criticism of Yukari in The Answer to heart.

I didn't pay full price for reload. I waited for it to go on sale, and will do the same for this DLC. Its just not worth that asking price.

for my opinion on the game, it was amazing, I personally didn't have any issues with performance and since I didn't play the fes version i don't hate how its not in the base game. my only gripe with the game is how its £35 but only 12 ish hours long (for casual gameplay, not speed running or trying to do every little thing possible), but since I've got money to spare i don't mind paying for it, I just don't like how expensive it is

I think they are both great games, imo FF16 has enough RPG mechanics to be called a RPG, theres leveling, equipment and skill trees for each summon, and is an incredibly addictive and fun game to play, same with relink as well but yes relink definitely has deeper progression and RPG mechanics

I still stand to this day that cinematics especially in boss battle wise FF 16 is the peak but I also tried GBFR my god I immediately imagined what if FF16 had this party system along with the combat.
