A lot of the wire should be secured with black 1" friction tape, especially under the tanks. I also found that parkerizing the painted parts holds the paint better than primer. Especially the exhaust. I have several large stainless tanks that I can even do rims, the inner and outer primary covers really hold up better parkerized and painted over. Harley even did that I have taken notice of on my OP parts.
@Savetherust22 сағат бұрын
definitely agree on the parkerizing over primer/paint . i don't have tanks big enough for parts like primaries . i do mostly smaller parts. thanks for the suggestions appreciate it

In about 1977 I got a 63 Studebaker R2 Avanti with a blown engine. I wanted another R2 engine and not just any 289 Stude. I located and bought what I presumed was the last "service kit" for the car, a brand new unassembled engine all in factory packaging.....brand new block, crank, pistons, valves, rings, bearings, etc, etc. Every part brand new except bolts.
@Savetherust2 күн бұрын
that's pretty cool . a friend of mine converted an avanti to electric for a customer .
@jeffhammers5677Күн бұрын
@Savetherust Studebaker V-8s are far more fuel efficient than the big three. A 259 c.i. two barrel with overdrive in a Lark can get 30 mpg highway....the Avanti has 10.25 to one compression, 4 barrel carb, is running a different camshaft and will likely be lower geared, all reducing efficiency in exchange for horsepower. Half of them had Paxon McCullough superchargers as well. Trade all of that for the nearly identical running gear from the Lark would certainly serve you better that somebody's backwards move converting it to Chinese electrical components and rendering it virtually useless. Just a side note...though always a Studebaker fan, my Avanti was one of the least comfortable cars to sit in for long drives....perhaps the long, frequent and expensive stays at the stupid charging stations will be a pleasant surprise. Personally, I like electric vehicles. Love bikes. My friend drag races them impressively. There is zero chance that a total shift to electric cars will happen in the foreseeable future.
@Savetherust15 сағат бұрын
@@jeffhammers5677 i defintely agree there wont be a shift to electric cars in the future. the Grid cant handle it.

Very envious of your fantastic collection of NOS parts Keith, I'm struggling to restore my 1941 WLA with second hand rusty crap😂 I remember the 80's in Europe when we had all the ex MAP parts coming out of Norway and Greece, we threw away parts we would kill for now. Great videos series, following with interest.

I seem to remember an American collector (called Sarafan?) Buying up.all the NOS that came out of Holland before we had a chance. He had motors, transmissions etc still in the crates. I may have an old sale catalogue somewhere.

@Savetherust4 күн бұрын
these engine cases have no number . i'll show them in the next video . army surplus. i've seen multiple sets of cases with hand stamped numbers but with non harley stamps and they never turn out right. harley had there own stamps and the fonts are unique. then to do it right you should use numbers that came from a blown set of cases.

Awesome collection great dedication. New old stock gets confused with new in box. There’s a difference. NOS means never been used. NIB means it has never been opened or taken out of its packaging. I suppose there are exceptions/allowances for each. That might include reasons for study, fitment, preservation, photography etc. Some buyers might be pickier than other buyers about that , which could affect value. The motor as you’ve said needed to be removed from its crate and serviced for preservation. The frame could be argued because some say it shouldn’t be painted (as someone commented) but the proof is in the details that show there hasn’t been anything mounted. Besides as all of us know Harley-Davidson didn’t follow a strict guideline in their manufacturing, assembly, distribution, marketing, dealership, repair etc process.
@Savetherust4 күн бұрын
i like your analysis of the terms . originally with the motor the previous owner wanted to get it prepared for use . but never did use it. we all know harley history isn't perfect and debate on lots of items still continue to this day. example 54 panheads as 50 anniversary models. i knew there would be debate on some of these parts and the idea to construct this nos motorcycle . thanks for the great comment
@sgtLuuk6 күн бұрын
I have my doubts about the frame being NOS. I also bought a NOS frame a few years ago, it was not painted green. In the years after I came across a few more and not one of them was green. but there were preservatives from top to bottom
@Savetherust6 күн бұрын
i've seen pictures of two in the original crates . picture was from a few months ago. they are green. when your up close and personal with this frame in particular you can see under the green paint the brazing residue. none of it is sanded or prepped in any way. this particular frame doesn't even have the seat post busing . the paint extends in the area . when you go over all the frame there is no sign of any wear. none on the axle plates none anywhere. if had been used and then repainted there would be visual signs. the ones you found were they post war? but everyone is entitled to their opinions . cheers
@sgtLuuk5 күн бұрын
@Savetherust the ones I saw were all from the war. As far as I know not many post war frames came to Europe, there was still enough left from the war.
@Savetherust5 күн бұрын
wish i could have seen them personally. if they were post war there would be some things that would identify them as post war . 3 bolt clutch cable mount in 47 . coil blocks in 48. no lug in front of trans mount i'm 1950-52. i'm assuming they were black. they could have been war era frames repainted post war and sent out there. there are so many possibilities . i know what i have and what i've seen. not sure what video i seen on the wheels thru time youtube but i'm sure i seen a nos green one in a display case. cheers
@sgtLuuk5 күн бұрын
@Savetherust believe me, those frames were all from the war. And as I said before, after the war, no frames came to Europe. There were more than enough left over from the war.
