The piano playing reminded me of my grandad playing to us in his front room. He was the landlord at the Queens, market place. And a piano tuner. I would love to know the name of the piano tune playing just before the piece on war. It just reminds me of him and it’s a lovely tune.

Used to be a cracking greasy spoon in the old bus station. Sticky checkered table cloths and the lot. Did the best fish fingers and beans for me, when my nan used to take me into town to get her hair done.

I remember that Cafe too, my grandad used to take me each saturday before we went down to the market where he would get his weekly bits and bobs and get his snuff in a circle silver tin. I'm 36 now, but remember it all very well.

I'm Doncaster born and bred. I grew up in wheatley but now live in the town centre. Doncaster had a lot of great things going on when i was growing up in the 70's and 80's. Now it's a drug infested shithole. Doncaster council is corrupt as hell. They totally destroyed the waterdale and anything that was good has been closed or knocked down. Most of the waterdale has been has been knocked down. They did build a new shopping complex in part of the waterdale a decade ago but it never got opened. It's still there now empty. It just stinks of corruption. I'm also sick to death of the so called "council enforcement officers" (or should i say corperate revenue collectors) commiting purgery, trying to extort money out of people using dirty tactics. When i see them doing this i give them hell and always protect the people they are trying to extort money out of. It pisses me off.

Waterdale is a private venture and has never been owned by the council. Waterdale was owned by St Modwen and it was they who built the new units in Waterdale. It was bought by Lazarus, and they have demolished nearly all of the old shopping centre. Since it is privately owned, Lazarus didn't need to ask permission to demolish it.

Depends on if they are running on both engines or just one - one exhaust per engine.

@@Titan604 Sorry, what I meant was why do they only use one engine?
@Titan6046 ай бұрын
@@paulfearn4905 In BR days, it was usually because the other engine was broken. In preservation days, if you are limited to 25mph you only need one, so it saves on fuel and maintenance. Of course during galas they may use both just for the hell of it, and out on the mainline they usually need both to keep time.

It's lucky that we got this video. In 20 years time, people won't believe that Doncaster had a tractor factory, because there is nothing left of the site today. So glad UK got it's call center and Amazon warehouses for employment

Nice to see the good ole Duke, though in her last months some drivers pushed her to over 110mph, and she occasionally caught fire, never quite enough to drag her down. Until eventually one day it did and nearly at the very end too an engine failure at Cramlington in 1981 sealed her fate. Withdrawn on the 22/11/81. Always kinda hoped she would be saved, but now the nameplates and this video are left. A lovely memory.

The big fat Deltics, only 22 were built compared with 200 class 40s, so more should have been saved. One should have been chosen as the locomotive of the Royal trains with more imposing presence than a class 47.
