Hey, I know this video is 2 years old, but I am about to order a set paco hub stands too. I am wondering do I need to order this string kit as well? Watching flyin miata's video, I thought the stands can do camber, caster, toe and thrust, all of it already, no? btw you could get 3+ camber just using oem camber bolts? I could never go more than 2 or even 1.5.

I am thinking about exactly this setup. I was concerned about loading with my 6 degree approach, but seeing you use the race ramps makes me much more confident I'll be able to get it in there. Mybaby Powerstroke F-150 obviously isn't going to cut it for this job - this is well into 1-ton territory. I'd prefer an SRW but thinking it may require a DRW to be safe. Have you weighed the trailer w/ the mx5, water, and gear? Do you know the pin weight on the trailer w/ & w/o the car? My Evo should be about 1,000# heaver than the MX5, so I'm curious how much I would have left to work with, and how loading the car affects the pin weight. I've learned to never trust any weight provided by the manufacturer other than the rated maximum.

Thanks for this.. Did I see that you were able to achieve -3 camber in the rear on stock suspension? Every alignment shop I've taken the car to has told me they were unable to get it past -2. Where I'm running, there are no rules, so I've purchased the SPL lower arm to help achieve that. Also just purchased the paco hub stands. You prefer doing the string method off the back of the car to using the built-in thrust angle measurement on the hub stands? Should be interesting getting the car safely onto the hub stands using just two floor jacks.. no fancy lift for me lol.
@plmotorsports60765 ай бұрын
Car is lowered on coilovers. That allows more camber over stock. -3 is the max I can get. I don’t measure thrust angle as it’s a variable of toe and will change will change if partial toe is uneven. Also the paco stands thrust angle never made sense to me and is not fine enough to actually measure IMO.

How/What did you do to be able to tow with your lifted truck? I have a f250 on a 4” lift with 37s and plan on trading my TT in for a 5th wheel but have been pretty much told I need to lower the truck in order to be able to tow a 5th wheel.
@951media5 ай бұрын
The lifted truck here is bad idea. Higher center of gravity, worse gearing for power, worse braking (more leverage on brakes), also heavier, worse mpg, and finally higher trailer height are some of the negatives. If the suspension is softer this is also bad for handling. If it is stiff it will ride worse than stock. There is a reason semis are low to the ground and stiff.

Nice video, when you mention you're using the cheater lines on the Paco hubstand to check toe are you just comparing the string to the marks that are used to check thrust? I see that you're also then checking with a straightedge marked out for your wheel size, but curious about using the marks on the Paco Stands for individual toe. Thanks!

You're probably tired of answering all the questions about your rig. I am looking at buying this same trailer after watching your vid. There aren't a bunch of good options at this price point for hauling a race car around. How much does your race car weigh? I am looking to haul an E36 ~3k lbs with similar tools (minor) and same number of tires. The best alternative I can find is the ATC PLA 700 but they don't even hold a candle to the 398m on the luxury front.

For toe, on those wheel stands, can't you run a line from each notch on the FR and FL wheel stand and use that to tell you toe using the graduated marks on the wheel stand? I've never owned wheel stands but was intrigued by this.
@plmotorsports6076 Жыл бұрын
They say you can but I don’t know how that can be accurate considering 1) The front and rear have different axle widths 2) Rear is Toe in, front is toe out, so your rear string is at the notch pushed furthest out and the front is on the notch pushed furthest out so they cancel each other and would only be accurate if your trying to achieve the same toe in as toe out of the front and rear don’t match you would have an offset.
@jwickert3 Жыл бұрын
@@plmotorsports6076 I see. Only useful for thrust angle then.
@MrKevbo82 Жыл бұрын
@@jwickert3exactly, you can use the hub stands to measure thrust, and you can run two tapes measures from side to side on the stand to get overall toe, but that won’t tell you each wheels toe like strings can. The real beauty of the hub stands IMO is having the car sitting loaded but with the wheels out of the way so you can access everything to adjust, torque, etc

I was thinking the same thing. That trailer has a 20K LBS GVWR and weighs around 15k LBS empty. That truck in the best configuration is only rated at 18.5k LBS tow (Regular Cab 4x2 Long Box). All short box crew cab configurations 2x4 or 4x4 cap out at 16.5K LBS tow (Crew Cab Short Box 4x2 with 24,100 GCWR). If stopped it doesn't matter what it actually weighs as the GVWR of the trailer is over the Max Trailer weight of the Truck. I went long box dually for this specific reason as I have a 20K GVWR trailer as well.
